might be why it is prescribed as a sleep aid at bedtime?
Yes, I took that sleep aid rx by my LLMD for a few years. One pill is a very mild dose. I took more when needed.
Don't understand why you did the little 1/2 daytime experiment?

According to my doc, trazodone used to be used as an antidepressant for years, however because of it's sedating effects, it's now primarily used for sleeping. If you don't HAVE to take it, don't!
The body gets extremely dependent on it quickly and it's very difficult to discontinue. Lot's of neuro symptoms involved with withdrawal from trazodone.
I speak from personal experience!

I had no problems coming off trazadone. I was on it about 4 yrs and was doing as much as 5 pills at bedtime.
Trazadone did quit working for me and I had to go to Ambien and then Ambien Cr. My sleep has improved since knocking bart down.
I've already lowered my dose of Ambien CR. Next I'm going back to Ambien and slowly ween myself off. I've seen too many bad posts about stopping Ambien, so it's going to be slow and easy, hopefully.

I felt awful on trazadone. Only took it a couple of nights. Made me feel deeply depressed. I just can't take ANY antidepressants.
Map, I took Ambien for about 8 months, and just recently stopped taking it. I didn't know I needed to ween off and just stopped cold turkey. I didn't have any reaction.
I was taking Xanax with it, and continue taking it. I sleep just as well with Xanax as I did with Xanax and Ambien.
