so i've been seeing an LLMD for the past year.. recently after taking tindamax and not noticing any herx i stopped going for a while.. mainly because i couldn't afford it.
i made a follow up appointment a couple weeks ago and now i'm glad i did.
recently, (last week) i got the stomach flu, and diarrhea non stop for 3 days, had to go to hospital, etc. horrible.
anyway, after i got better i noticed my testicles started aching, so i went to doctor today.
she feels i have epididymitis and gave me some antibiotics. my question is, does lyme cause this?
i have no idea if this is coincidence or what but just not sure.
anybody with experience in this? i'm a 27 year old male.

Your health care provider will prescribe medications to treat the infection. Sexually-transmitted infections require specific antibiotics. Your sexual partners should also be treated.
You may need pain medications and anti-inflammatory medications.
Bed rest, while elevating the scrotum and applying ice packs to the area, is recommended. It is very important to have a follow-up visit with your health care provider to find out whether the infection has gone away completely.
Epididymitis is usually caused by the spread of an infection from the urethra or the bladder.
==== To elevate the scrotum, roll a small towel and place under the scrotum, while the patient is lying in bed, with his knees bent. You can put a pillow under the knees for comfort.
We did this when I worked in the hospital. We made up ice packs too, but I really don't remember if the patients said it helped the pain.
thanks for the info.. though i was wondering if the lyme bacteria can cause this as well?
I'm not sure if its std related or not, had a urine test to see, but i'd be very surprised if it was..
since i've had the same gf for over a year, though both of us are looking at eachother like, if it is an std, where the heck did you get it...
i know there are some other causes so we'll see what comes back.

sco24, I would say, yes, lyme can do this. Reproductive issues related to lyme need more research. Dr. Bransfield mentioned in one of his pieces that lyme may cause testicular atrophy that can resolve with treatment.
We know lyme causes libido issues indirectly from its general body-wide burden but it likely causes reproductive issues directly in one way or another.
For men, T levels may drop. The mechanism for this could be multi-faceted--hormone blockade from toxins, thyroid issues, cortisol issues, etc.
Since your issues seem to have occurred after the flu, I would guess the flu was likely the cause and that your problem may simply be transient.
Regardless, it's good you're staying on top of it. It may be nothing more than epididymitis which may resolve with the abx or may resolve on its own if it were caused by your flu.

I was getting epididymitis a lot when I first starting feeling crummy a couple of years ago. Took some time for it to clear up.
Sometimes when I feel my body wearing down or going through some flares, my epididymis will flare up. Definitely bacteria-related in my opinion.

I know three Lymies with this symptom. Two of the three found the tick on their testicles! The pain comes and goes, and is definitely related to either herxing or flaring (when off abx). I hope this helps.

I've had some testicular issues...freak me out when it happens, and can be quite painful as I'm sure you know. Then it fades. It's one of my rotate every few months-maybe disappearing symptoms.
And for what it's worth, never had any issues pre-lyme.

I've had it twice and it was excruciating both times. That was pre-Lyme and was secondary to an STD. If the antibiotics do not take care of it fairly quickly, my suggestion is that you request a testicular ultrasound for your own peace of mind. Not to freak you out but you are in a prime demographic for testicualr cancer. Caught early it's almost entirely curable. Don't dawdle.
