My child just saw her first LLMD. He doesn't deal with kids so much but seems thorough none the less.
He ran: CD-57, 2 co-infections, ferritin/iron, Vitamin D (both levels) and a couple others.
The layperson calls and says "everything looks good except her iron is low (22 norm:50-100).LLMD recommends 15mg "Iron Protein Plus" by "Life Extension" 1 x day.
Is this one of the better suppliments to take?
So then I decided to ask about the CD-57 and she said: "ummmm...it says 66 but I don't know how to interpret that". Does this mean LLMD thinks it's normal? I felt kind of rushed once I asked that question which makes me nervous.
Do you think that 66 is low for a child of 12?
I asked for them to send the results in the mail but I am wondering is it appropriate to call back and ask LLMD or nurse what that means (as well as ask about the co-infections)? I don't want them to grow tired of us or come across as overly agressive but my child is SO sick and I feel so uninformed and confused!

Just my 2 cents here about the CD57 for kids. I know for sure that white blood cell counts are much more variable for kids than for adults. So, it makes sense that your MD may not know how to interpret this test in a child.
I work in HIV/AIDS research and after about 12 or older, CD4 count (analogy to CD57) becomes reliable. With young children CD4 percent is a better marker for health than the count. Since so much more research has been done on HIV than Lyme, I'm sure that CD57 % has not been adequately studied.
That being said 66 is low for normal grown ups and would be supportive of Lyme.

I think your doctor is wise by knowing this test might not be accurate for children (again drawing the analogy with CD4 in HIV).
