I wake up every 2 hours because of this. Anyone found a good treatment that lasts all night and gets rid of the dryness and red, swollen eyelids?

I've had dry eye for a long time. I use Refresh artificial tears, the kind with no preservatives. I keep the ampule of it on the bedside table, so I can grab it when I wake up.
Fish oil will help dry eye. My eyes are not as bad as they used to be.

I use FreshKote drops. It requires a script. Your LLMD could write you one. They last longer than the others like Systane which I was given by my opththamologist.

I have been using Genteal products and have tried others, but my eyes keep hurting after a few minutes of putting in the drops. Just being awake and moving helps most.
i have been on fish oil 2 x/day for about a month, but doesn't seem to help my eyes yet. Skin, eyes, mouth all are dry, except during the day. But eyes are the worst!!

I can't emphasis strongly enough that hyaluronic acid, which is collagen, will help more than anything else and works in a matter of days. You take it internally. It is used for joint support, skin and eyes. It is in some expensive make up as it will prevent wrinkles. It is not an acid, nothing to fear. Good for you. Buy it at your health food store and get the vegetarian kin.

Freshkote is a good alternative. It's relatively new to market and really isn't a "drug" per se. Works by binding the tear film to the eye ball not just replensishing the supply. Use both Systane and Freshkote together and you'll feel better.
Imagine2, your LLMD is a pretty smart person.

You can increase the fish oil to 3000 mg daily, and it's okay to take it all in one dose. I take it with the CoEnzyme Q10, as that needs fats to be absorbed.
I recommend this one, which has an EPA ratio of seven to one: Omega 3 Mood
Fish oil will reduce inflammation and improve cell wall integrity.

Oh good, I'm going to look into that. Thanks nefferdun!

I use Refresh brand Liquigel eye drops before bed.
Don't worry, it doesn't feel like an icky gel. It soothes the eyes and keeps them hydrated all night.
I used to wake up with terrible red, dry, itchy, painful eyes every day. Then one of my friends noticed that I slept with my eyes cracked slightly open.
My doctor recommended the Refresh Liquigel at night to help protect my eyes, Zaditor (OTC) drops in the AM to relieve allergy symptoms, and Refresh Tears during the day if my eyes feel dry or irritated again.
You can use the Refresh Tears with contacts too.
