I am supplementing my Vitamin D, since it low, and started having lots of cramping. I did a search on here and found that I need to probably take more Magnesium.
I have Magnesium Malate at home. Is there a better one or one more indicated for taking with Vitamin D? Do you take it at the same time or wait a bit?
Thanks for any help!

Magnesium malate is probably fine. Albion magnesium glycinate is another one I like. Some people also like mag citrate, but that may cause some digestion issues.
I see no problem with taking it at the same time as vitamin D.
You may want to research vitamin K2, as I personally think that's the one people should take with vit D. May want to avoid K2 if anyone out there has blood clotting issues though.

Mg malate did not help my twitching but Mg Potassium Aspartate from Vitamin Shoppe did. The effect seems to have worn off after a couple of months though.

I've tried many different types of mag and absolutely love Mag-Tab SR as mentioned above by TIMACA. It's also recommended by Dr. B. I take it throughout the day and especially around the time when I know I'm going to have to stand alot (like at night in the kitchen with dinner and the dishes)....
Taking it throughout the day has really worked the best for me.....

I can't say what's best, but I've found pain relief from BIOCHEM's Malic Relief Formula. (I don't sell any health products!) It has magnesium malate plus Ca, Mn, chromium, curcumin, devil's claw, silica, and horsetail. It's the only combo supplement I take (vs individual supplements).
Two Fibro docs recommended it. I felt it helping when I first started taking it about 10 yrs ago, then I can tell it's missing if I've run out and think it's too expensive to buy. Always seem to come back to it!
My neighbor couldn't use it, complaining of a metal aftertaste. I take one tab w/ breakfast and one w/ dinner. No aftertaste w/ food, but I've experienced the metal taste if I hadn't had a full meal.
Anyone found a less expensive or more effective product that's similar to Malic Relief Formula? I'm happy w/ it for now.

Question for Mag Tab people: any concern taking it during the day, since it's extended release, and it may interfere with the absorption of some antibiotics?
Or is the release so slow that it won't matter regarding interaction?
I have some Mag Tab here, but never really noticed any difference between it and other magnesiums. But I also only took 2/day, and at night. I'm curious now if higher dosing, spread out, would have a different effect. But since I'm on Doxy too, I didn't want to take minerals during the day.

I take magnesium chloride in liquid form. I had researched the forms of mag, and although there were a couple recommended specifically for lyme sufferers, I chose this form due to its ability to be absorbed in the body. I don't have intestinal issues from it. In that dept. it is actually quite mild.
My son, also a lyme victim, had whole body twitches, not just restless legs, but whole body. This has since been rectified.
I am also taking somewhere along the lines of 2400 mgs. of vitamin D3 for a three week pulse, I had one incidence of muscle cramping and upped my mag cholride with no further issues.
I take it twice a day, morning and evening as does my son.

Edited to add:
It is Nutricology Magnesium Chloride
Serving Dose is 1/2 tsp = 66.5 mgs
It is lower in cost, and lasts awhile. I can find it locally or on the net.
I add this twice a day in my am and pm lime bicarbonate, with potassium iodide (am) and potassium chloride (pm), and a teeny pinch of sea salt, and a packet of Stevia.

Sorry, I can't speak to magnesium's interaction with abx so I don't have advice as to when to take the mag.....(I stopped taking abx years ago)....
As you've probably read, some abx can lower the levels of magnesium in the body....In other words, it may not matter when you take the mag but you might need to take more of it if you're on an abx that depletes mag....Hope this makes sense....

in addition to oral Mag, for really fast acting Mg, try the transdermal Mag Oil (MgCl). Start with 1/2 the recommended amount of squirts in a glass (not plastic), mix with same amount of H2O and use forearms to distribute over body. You can feel the effects in ~15-20 minutes.
Do not spray undiluted on skin as it will sting. If the bowels become loose, then back off the number of squirts next time.
