I started taking Wobenzym N a week ago (7 tablets twice a day) and I was wondering if it could produce a herx reaction. Old, scary symptoms are coming back.
I'm not taking any abx at the moment.

I am taking it for the second time - 3 tabs 3x/day - and have noticed no reaction either time.

I took one pill and was up all night with insomnia!

Yes...i had a terrible herx from wobenzym. I would definitely cut way back and work up slowly. Enzymes break down biofilm.

Be careful what you folks call herxing...no doubt these are some kind of reactions but HERXING comes from anti-spirochetal drugs by definition.

Systemic enzymes will break down the biofilm that's protecting the Lyme bacteria.
Once the Lyme bacteria is exposed, the white cells can phage, or eat, them. When the Lyme bacteria is killed, it leaves behind poisons that affect our nerves...neurotoxins.
Neurotoxins cause herxheimer reactions.
So even though Wobenzym is not an "anti-spirochetal drug," it can assist in ridding the body of Lyme bacteria, and may result in a herx.
If the Lyme bacteria is in the muscle and nerve cells, the white blood cells cannot reach it to kill it.

I know wobenzym is good stuff, it has been around for years, just folks need to be careful with words, and explain it like you just did.

Problem is there is no proof that taking enzymes in this form do any good. It's all just theory. I have never ever noticed anything taking Wobenzym.

Rich, You've been taking it on an empty stomach? It moves to the small intestine, where 25% of it is absorbed into the bloodstream.
I had big, big results from it.

p.s. I first began systemic enzymes in an attempt to reduce inflammation. From what I gather, most of the research for this has been done in Europe, where physicians prescribe it.
I didn't know what would happen when I started. First I tried Serrapeptase, and got no observable results. Same with another systemic enzyme.
Then I tried Wobenzym. It has to be taken on an empty stomach, or it will act as a digestive enzyme. Within two weeks something wonderful happened: my daily headaches were reduced.
I worked up to twelve tablets daily. It seemed as if my muscle and joint pain was somewhat reduced; at least the pain meds seemed to work better.
This past January I ran into a problem. The manufacturer, Mucos, seemed to have been replaced by Garden of Life. Okay, so I bought the new stuff, which smelled different and had a slightly different appearance. The list of ingredients seemed to be the same.
Within a week, my headaches were getting worse. My aches and pains increased, and after three weeks of the new Wobenzym, I was in agony.
A friend clued me in that Mucos brand Wobenzym was still available, and told me where to find it. When I resumed taking it, my pain levels decreased.
I didn't realize how effective this supplement was until I ran out.
