My son came in from our backyard and I found a tick on his head...YICKS!!! Panic. the thought makes my heart race. Terrified, I removed it and I believe it is a lone star tick, but I have no idea what to do now. Any suggestions?

If I was you start treatment for 6-8 weeks with amoxicillin. This is a bist atack it when you can. Dont be afraid from ABX my doughter was in ABX for 2 years for urinary infection. The hardest part was to give her meds, but kids tolerate ABX very well.

one way would be to start a two one month or two month treatment...
Or I think you can send the tick in to be examined and see if it has anything. It would be best to call your health department about this.
Or you could just take your son to get a blood test for lyme and co-infections done... The test are more accurate if caught early.
personally, I would not start treatment based on just finding a tick on myself. You never said if it was attached or not?

Was it attached?
Either way, save the tick with your documentation about day/time you found the tick.
You can have the tick tested through Igenex, but personally I would simply save it for the time being. (Tick testing can be as unreliable as human testing, so why waste the money unless you need it tested for a specific reason?)
When we found a tick attached to my little one, we did start abx immediately.
Our pedi worked in conjunction with my LLMD to treat preventatively, and I'm grateful because one long-term Lymie in our family is enough.
You don't want to use doxy in a young child - but amoxy will work.
We did 1 month, but 6 weeks would be even better.
I still watch my child like a hawk for any signs or symptoms, but we've had no problems. (knock on wood)
If you do treat - be sure to give your little one probiotics mixed into applesauce or yogurt - whatever s/he will eat.

The tick was attached. I hope I can get my pediatrician to do antibiotics. My LLMD probably won't treat him unless he is established.

I use MMS on myself whenever I have a tick attached to me. I am not recommending that for a child, but the principle is to treat right away while any infection is in the blood, and more easily killed.
I have been bit several times, but I never have had any illness as a result.
Five ticks on me so far this year, but none of them managed to bite me. Two were Deer ticks. It is unavoidable around here, so a person does need a way of dealing with it quickly.

It goes by two names. Miracle Mineral Supplement, or Miracle Mineral Solution.
It basically is Sodium Chlorite, that is mixed with vinegar of Citric Acid and that converts it into Chlorine Dioxide. You drink the Chlorine Dioxide and it chemically reacts to acidic pathogens by oxidizing them.
It is the same mechanism as Hydrogen Peroxide or Ozone.
It is not approved to treat anything and is experimental.
I have used it for Crohn's Disease and it has helped me out a lot. My wife used it for a while for Lyme and it was killing some of it, but it is hard on the Stomach. She had to stop taking it because of this.
There is many threads on this here, if you do a search.
