I had to stop ABX due to yeast so have been doing the cowden protocol for the last 21 days. I had my amalgams out two weeks ago and am also doing chelation and detoxing in combination with the cowden protocol.

I've noticed in the past couple of days that if i sit with my legs crossed too long that when i get up my knees take about 20 seconds to support me as they are very sore for the time being. it was like that when i woke up today too. this is something i've never experienced.

I felt a little feverish (without an actual fever) yesterday. Today i'm at 99.0 compared to a usual 96 or 97 temp. I'm also incredibly exhausted, but did just have a very high stress and taxing week. My glands are aching a bit too.

I don't know that I've ever had an official herx before. This seems like one to me.

Anyone do Cowden before? If so, how long into it before you saw any effects.

thanks!

My son has been on it for 4 months and my daughter for 2- my son has reacted as you describe, but not my daughter... my son has been sick longer; how long have you been sick, maybe that is why.

If you are doing detox yourself on top of Cowden it may be too much; Cowden has detox herbs in the protocol...

... and those detox herbs are very strong. The combination of chelation, detox + Cowden may be way too much for your system at this time- can you just do the Cowden for now and let your system rest a bit?

(it'll feel like a rest anyway for a little bit- the Cowden protocol by itself is actually very, very effective.)

thanks for the post. I have been in treatment for nearly a year and a half with no positive gains. I've been on a lot of "big guns" antibiotics and it seems no matter what I take the bugs just don't die.

I have been sick since 1997, but only knew what was causing it since 2008. So I'm a tough case.

I'm actually excited to see some sort of progress, even if it's a herx and i'm feeling worse. I'm willing to take on any sort of discomfort if it means that the bacteria is finally dying.

I'm sorry to hear you have two sick kids. Kids should not have to deal with this horrible illness. it breaks my heart! So did your son make progress after the herxes?

Best of luck to you and thanks for the post!

Sure, he is continually making progress- you will too! Hang in there!

There is info to handle herx's on the Cowden protocol. In case you do not have it, here is the link...

http://www.bionatus.com/nutramedix/pdfs/Condcowdensum.pdf

I think the herx info is on page 2.

Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time and you have been treating for a while.

What does your doctor think about the lack of herxing? If you made it until day 21 on Cowden without a herx maybe your infection load isn't that high. Or it isn't hitting the correct bugs. Cowden isn't that great at getting at Babesia. Have you treated Babesia with medication yet? The swollen glands could be from Bartonella. I have herxed from Cowden usually on 4 drops...If I have been on antibiotics for a while it usually only lasts 2-3 days.

I hope you get some progress under your belt soon. Hang in there!!

Thanks JoesMom for the PDF. that is good info.

Thanks unsure445 for your info. My initial lack of progress is likely from not addressing other issues before getting treatment.

I have been with my new LLMD for only four months. He did a lot more extensive testing and found out that I have an incredible level or Aluminum and elevated levels of mercury and lead in my body.

I also have adrenal dysfunction, vitamin deficiencies and now a problem with yeast. All the other components that were not dealt with from the beginning by other LLMDs (I've seen two others) is what the current LLMD feels is why I have yet to see progress.

Now, however, he is addresses the infections and the other stuff. Given that I can't be on antibiotics because of the yeast, however, is probably why i never herxed on antibiotics. But it looks like it's a good sign that I am herxing on the herbs.

I had my amalgams removed a few weeks ago and have been chelating for three months so maybe this is what I needed to do before going on antibiotics.

I am hopeful at this point, being with my new doctor. He is so comprehensive and doesn't leave any stone unturned.

For babesia I did a lot in the beginning. Did Mepron/biaxin and als did arteminisin.

Now I am doing Enula, Dr. Zhang's artemesiea (not sure how to spell it, but it's not arteminisin, but a differen variation of the herb) and plaquinil. I have seen little progress with this (it's been one month) so they are having me try coartem. I've searched on this forum and see that not too many people have tried this. must be a rather new approach.

so i'll be doing that this week. It's just a three day treatment.

Anyway, this whole thing is so confusing. I wish I could have started at my current doctor when i first discovered i had Lyme, but he was not accepting patients back then (his practice was full).

Do you have babesia or been on cowden? if so, have you found any success? I hope so!

thanks!

Coartem is great and really helped me get over Babesia so good luck with it.

It sounds like you are in excellent hands!!!

I have been on Cowden since last summer when I was starting to transition off abx. I took a downturn on just the herbs but then things improved after a few months so it takes a little time on them. But then Babesia was becoming a bigger issue so I started taking Mepron. I herxed like crazy for a month and then gradually improved but was still having flares every week. Added Coartem. Huge improvement.

Hopefully its all up hill from here for you!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am so glad to hear that you had success on coartem and are doing well and had success enough to start to come off ABX. Sometimes, as I am sure you know, this illness can be so discouraging. It's nice to hear positive feedback on here.

thanks!
