Hi all...my daughter has a bite mark on her neck. We do not know what bit her because she scratched it while in the bath tub.

It could have been a tick that was attached or something else. It's definitely not a mosquito bite...it's small, round and purplish in color. We live in an endemic area.

I am headed to the Dr now with her (not an llmd) and will ask for antibiotics just to be safe.

What should I ask for? My daughter is 9 years old and is healthy overall. I am not 100% sure that she does not have congenital lyme to begin with...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Be sure to take a picture of the rash. I hope it wasn't a tick.

Good luck getting antibiotics from a non-lyme doc. What they usually say is to wait for symptoms, especially if you didn't see the tick. Frequently they say this even if a tick was seen attached.

Have you read Dr. Burrascano's treatment guidelines on the ILADS website? They will say something about antibiotics for children. As I recall, doxy is out because of teeth staining, but read the guidelines. If this child has congenital lyme (why do you think this?), and has never had antibiotics, watch out for herx reaction.

Most of us took 400mg of doxy per day.... I myself would want 6-8 wks of doxy for a new bite.

Keep us posted!!

Update: The appt was with the PA and she was very young and personable. When I explained my condition to her and explained how my daughter was out in the woods and at a lake all day the previous day, she agreed that we should give her some abx just to be safe.

She said she could probably take the doxy but I requested Augmentin because of the sun. My daughter plays softball and we can not avoid the sun right now. She only prescribed it for 14 days but it's better than nothing and a start.

She also said she would order blood work in a few weeks if I'd like and if there are ANY symptoms to let her know and she would get us more meds.

I will watch out for a herx because there is a very good chance that she is congenital. I am positive I had Lyme and Bart while I was pregnant with her. She hasn't had any abx for years, she doesn't ever really get sick.

Let's hope for the best! Thanks everyone!

My daughter was bit by a tick a couple years ago. She pulled it off herself so I never saw it. The site where the tick was became infected. It hurt and itched and lasted quite awhile. There was never any bulls eye rash. More and more she complains about her stomach and her legs hurting. She just turned 12 so it could just be growing pains. Should I try to get her tested? She also had a tick bite in the back of her neck with kind of the same reaction but not as bad. She has sensitive skin so maybe that's all it is?
