Last year I felt pretty good...quit abx after 2 1/2 years and relapsed. I've been taking abx now for almost a year 10 days on, 18 days off. (I start before my period-that's why it's a 28 day cycle)

Been feeling pretty good for the past 3 months..I think some symptoms may be due to perimenopause. (Occasional dizziness, very occasional shortness of breath)

So-how do you know when you are done?

Moving to the top because I have the same question.

I haven't been on abx as long as you but I've been feeling relatively good for a few months now.

I do continue to have weird symptoms but I'm beginning to wonder if some of that is just aging and pre-menopause (I'm 45)....EVERYTHING can't be lyme (or can it?)!

My LLMD did a flagyl challenge on me. High doses of flagyl for 5 days (?) then off 5 (?) then high again .. repeat several times.

Then you do it again several weeks later. This was 5+ years ago, so I don't remember the protocol. If you can survive high doses of flagyl you are likely "cured."

PS.. You do this AFTER you are symptom free for at least 2-3 months.

Personally, I don't believe we are ever "done". There is certainly a time to come off antibiotics, but then herbs, detox, and other lifestyle/diet changes are likely required for life in order to optimize our health.

There are people that would say they are "done".

I know people that have gone back to a regular life.

Hopefully they treat their body with more respect after what they have seen happen to their body.

I am done with Lyme treatment, but as Scott says I am aware of my body and its need for perhaps more detox than "normal" ..... or is it more than "normal"? Our environment is so toxic that perhaps everyone should be aware of what they are putting into their bodies and getting the toxins out.

In general, I think I feel much BETTER than other women who are "healthy" and 47 years old.

I guess you could try a month off and see if your symptoms flare during your period. Talk with your LLMD.

I am a pilates instructor and was working with a woman who had breast cancer. Her oncologist told her that it takes the body a time equal to the treatment time to get back to "normal." I can see how that could also be said of Lyme.
