i know it's gross but ya'll know i have been having a terrible time with gastro problems.

now this!! it feels like rectal spasms, like an internal cramp. i go to the bathroom and nothing.

i have only been once in two weeks and i know that ain't good.

i tried fiber -- nothing. metamucil -- nothing. tons of water -- nothing. finally tried women's corectol and had to take three.

one and half days later i started going with water. i never did have a "movement" just lots of water.

i know i'm constipated. i started having pretty severe abdominal pain last night and this morning.

then i realized "uh oh, shouldn't have taken a laxative with diverticulitis", but it was too late anyway.

i'm at my wit's end. these spasms hurt. the gastro gave me bentyl but all it does is give me dry mouth.

i bought benefiber and started two today.

also i started nutrisystem diet and am loosing weight. so far about 8 pounds.

could it be the diet?

i really need some help. i need to do natural detox and go poooo..

if it ain't one thing it's another.

and, oh yes, the most embarrasing of all -- gas!! lots of it.

lyme? the diet? i guess it all runs together in my mind sometimes, but i hate going to doctors and i don't want to go.

randibear, sorry you are so miserable. I used to be so constipated all the time till a dr recommended Dr. Schulze Intestional Formula #1. I've been using it about 10 years. I had tried everything and nothing would work. Sometimes even an enema wouldn't work. The good thing is you can take as many as you need, just add another one each day if you don't get results. I have no cramping from it either.

I had a colonoscopy last year and figured my dr would fuss for me using it so long but he told me to keep doing what I was doing.

When I first started I was so constipated that I ended up at 10 but after that I settled on 3 and it works like a charm. If I were you I would start at 3 and add one each day till you get results and then back down. You will find the number that works for you. My 77 yr old mother only takes 1 every other day and it works good for her.

I buy mine sometimes on ebay and they are cheaper than his website. I have also gotten them from Total Health, they are $17.93. Here's the website
http://www.totaldiscountvitamins.com/product/4473/220

Also, here's a coupon code for 10% off

Hope this helps.

Randi,

are you on probiotics? You should not get constipated then or you need to take more.

no, i'm off all abx, herbs and probiotics right now.

i got concerned because i was taking alot, i mean, alot of probiotics. critical care, jarrow, pb8, and one other.

i read a study where it said that you can take too many probiotics and it could possibly kill you due to severe overgrowth or something.

anyway, i just thought i would take a break.

I have no idea about using this with your condition. You might email them and ask.

I have had issues with ths too.

It doesn't happen all the time, but I have days where I have a BM, and as soon as I'm done, I have intense spasms in the rectal area.

The last time it happened, it was so painful that I had to lie down on the bathroom floor till it passed. I got really dizzy, nauseated and HOT--broke out in a sweat like I was in labor.

And yes, I get a lot of gas too.

1) Try Miralax for the constipation. It's over-the-counter now but used to be by prescription only. No taste. Works great. Very gentle.
2) Alternately, take 2 SENNA tablets and 2 STOOL SOFTNER (docusate) tablets daily for 5 days. (I take narcotics which cause bad constipation and this combo works for me.)
3) I have had severe rectal spasms for years and can relate to your pain and concern! I use FLEXERIL (muscle relaxant) to help (but they don't work quickly). In addition (this is gross, but works) I slowly insert a finger into my rectum (gloved hand, naturally!) and try to massage the pain away. At first it may seem impossible to do. It takes me a couple of minutes to relax enough to get my finger in; then I slowly try to press against the spasming area. It usually takes me 2 to 5 minutes to get some real relief. It's the only thing that I found works every time.

Good luck and I hope you find some relief.
