Hi:

Five years ago I was bitten by a deer tick which I sent to a lab and got results saying it had borrelia burgdorferi.

I had no rashes, no fevers, flu symptoms or any symptoms at all. Roughly 3 years later I get some headaches which are new in my life. A year after that some strange mouth pains, and finally at 4 1/2 years from time of bite arthritic knees and a host of other muscle pains, and now tremors in legs.

Am wondering how common this kind of long latency before symptoms appear is. 9 months of antibiotics treatment has made no diff and am wondering if I might be on the wrong path.

thanks

Hi,
Lyme symptoms can set in many years after the bite.

Have you tested for co-infections? Most are co-infected with other bacteria ticks carry. If the co-infections aren't treated, Lyme will not resolve.

I believe you are absolutely on the right path, you were bitten by an infected tick. Lyme and co-infection treatment can take (sorry to say this) months or years, we hope for remission.

The link at the bottom of this post has a lot of information and resources.

You should go to Ilads.org and click on the "contact" link you can email or call them for a referral to a Lyme literate Md if you don't have one. Testing for Lyme and the most common co-infections should be done at Igenex lab.

It is important to have a Lyme literate Md who understands all that is involved in Tick Borne Diseases. There are endless combinations of antibiotics that are used to treat Lyme/co's., orals, IV and IM.

Take care.

I recall 2 bites in my life, first when I was 5 and another one in June 2008. My symptoms started 9 months after the bite in 2008...

my LLMD says that based on my WB I had lyme long before 2008...so there yep latency is possible
