Hey all,
I know it's been forever since I've been on Lyme.net and as I'm sure you've guessed, that is a positive thing for me...been doing VERY well symptom wise despite all of the terrible circumstances that happened at the end of last year. Had a few s/s pop up here and again, but even when I considered myself healthy in between relapses I had s/s as well.
I am working (right now full time, but will go down to 24 hrs/week in just a couple of weeks as it will be the end of orientation), and I plan to start summer classes next week.
The rental I will be moving into (after living with family for the past 5 months which has been such a blessing) is in the country and no broadband internet is available. I need internet for school, but I don't know if satellite is as bad as wireless for lymies.
Anyone know? I want to start school this summer so that in fall 2011 I will be able to begin my Master's program for family nurse practitioner so that I can treat Lyme patients. However I know that I need to stay relatively healthy in order to complete the program, so it's a catch 22 of sorts.
If I don't write back, don't worry. I don't have the opportunity to get online much as where I am currently living doesn't have internet access. I however will ensure that I check my e-mail for replies.

Typically, the satellite is connected to a wireless modem/router, so then it becomes wifi and the same as wireless -- if you're concerned about the wireless make sure they hard-wire your computer right to the modem that hooks to the satellite, and that it's not putting out wireless signals.
I read in a book on nontoxic building that satellites themselves are not problems for people who are EMF sensitive, as they are receivers rather than transmitters.

Hi Ocean-
Good to hear that you are OK. All of this is hard for us in so many ways...
I don't know about the satellite connection, though.
Wishing you & everyone well.

Ocean,
I would double everything that LymeCFIDSMCS just said there, those are the keys.
Another thing to keep in mind, some things, like even laptops, are wireless enabled even if you don't use that ability. The laptops typically have on-off switches for the wireless, so you want to make sure you have the switch off.
The same thing may go or the satellite internet. Just because you use the system wired and aren't really using the wireless, doesn't mean it's not on and sending signals. If you are EMF sensitive, be sure it is really not sending signals, either having someone you really trust tell you this, or get a meter and test for yourself.
I have satellite for TV, and am very EMF sensitive, and that is not a problem, the box in our home is just a receiver, so we are okay. But to use internet, you are sending signals, so you need to make sure that connection is wired and not WiFi.
Best of luck!
Michael
