Hey Everyone, Its Katie- I made a new screen name because on my other, my husband posts and I thought I would just confuse myself.

I was finally able to find a doctor who would start me off on ABX based off of my symptoms & the doctor wants me get a blood test... Not like i havent had 5 already... [dizzy]

I recall hearing about a ABX trial to see if one could provoke the spirochete to show its self during the die-off...

Has anyone heard of this or tried it? Does anyone know how to do it?

Thanks again
Katie [spinning smile]

yeah- search "antibiotic challenge" (use quotes, I think, or you'll turn up every thread about antibiotic)

I dont have direct experience of this or I'd give you more info- but I know we talked about dosages and types of antibiotics a few times recently-ish.

My first WB was before antibiotics and completely negative, no bands postive. 2nd test I had been on antibiotics for 2 months and got band 41. 3rd test, a year on antibiotics came back IGM CDC positive. I did not stop the antibiotics to do the test.

Anyway as you probably know LD is a "clinical" diagnosis; but I am giving my experience just to let you know that it can sometimes take a while to get a positive test to back up the clinical diagnosis. Treatment should be given based on the clinical diagnosis, not the test results.

Treat the patient not the test!

Sutherngrl & MariaA:

Thanks for your reply.

My husband & 3 1/2 year old son have positive Lyme tests and are both seeing LLMDs.

For some time now, I had been almost "hiding" my symptoms and brushing them off as everyday things, poor sleep, stress, common cold etc.Not sure why, but I did. Sounds stupid I know, and it was, but something happened this week with a daily thing that I couldnt remember to do.

I finally decided the other day that I definatly needed to go see someone after I couldnt remember something I did on a daily basis. It wasnt even that I forgot it, it was I couldnt remember.

I have an appointment in 3 months to see a LLMD, but I knew I needed to see someone before then. I went to my PCP, very nice man and had explained to him my symptoms and family history of Lyme and decided to put me on Doxy. But he said he wanted me to get a blood test.

Being I had heard for this ABX Challange, I was interested to if anyone had tried this or knew how to do this so I could do it before testing.

Thanks again to the both of you!
Katie

I was given a WB before abx and only had band 41 pos. Was on abx for a month, then off for 17 days. I got tested through Igenex, and now I have two bands positive and two bands ind. I am igenex pos, CDC negative. But that is good enough for me.

I am happy with the results, I really wanted a little proof and I think I got it!

Good luck!

All I know is, I had the labcorp Elisa which was negative. Then did 10 days Amoxy thinking it was a sinus infection. 2 days later had Igenex test and IgM came back with 6 bands positive.

Not sure if it was the Amox or not.

Not sure if I ever had Elisa. If I did doc would not give me copies.

First WB said one band in IgG region unable to identify.

Second after 3 months homemade antibiotic-pos. IgM.

I hear he's now laughing and telling everyone that comes in they probably have Lyme.

But he didn't even know what the bands stood for. He tried to tell me my Igenex was neg. I told him they were not and left.

I had been on antibiotics for three weeks for a bad sinus infection before IgeneX lyme test. It was about 10 days after I had stopped the antibiotics that I did the test. Came back IGG and IGM positive. I also had a Bart test at Quest after three years of antibiotics and it came back postive.

I am thinking I will test just before my ABX run out. Being the doctor at the moment is only a PCP, he only gave me 21 days.

I also am going to see if I can get the doctor to order test from Igenex.

Thanks Katie
