In May of 06 I started to get real weak and got a headache that was never ending. My symptoms at this time were, tingling, pins and needles, weakness, fatigue, neck pain and some more things. This lasted for a full 3 months, at this time I got a brain and c- spine mri with no contrast and it was normal. My neuro said no chance of ms. My mri of spine showed 2 bulging disks, everyone was quick to blame all my symptoms on the disks but neuro said that the disks would not cause all these symptoms, he blamed it on anxiety.

My symptoms were gone in 3 months and soon after I had pain my eyes, sharp, dull pain behind my eye and it felt very scratchy for a good month.
I went to the opthahmalogist and they said my eyes were just fine.

Soon after the eye pain was gone. I had no symptoms until Feb 07, at this time I knew that something was definitely wrong with me. My symptoms were, tingling, pins and needles, twitching, insomnia, headaches, face pain, itching, muscle pain, muscle weakness, my eye would at times see double, major neck and shoulder pain, pain in my mid back, burning feet, hot and cold sensations, some nights right when I was about to sleep I would get a whole body jerk, again I went to the neuro and did a mri of brain with no contrast and it was normal, my neuro again said no ms. Soon my symptoms were gone. All blood work is normal too. Lyme with the infectious disease doc was negative.

I then decided to see a llmd, which I saw Dr. H, here were my test results

igm- 39+ 41 IND
igg- 41+ 66+ 39 IND

He put me on 10 days amoxy and made me retest again only for IGM;

Results were:

IGM

30+
41+
39 IND

Also did a 30/31 kda test which was negative. He said I had borderline lyme, so all I ever did was 10 days of amoxy, I was 3 months pregnant with baby #1. My symptoms soon all went away, this is in 2007. I had another baby a year later, no symptoms what so ever. Dr. H also told me that after I give birth if I did have lyme for sure that all my symptoms would come back in full effect. With my 2 kids this did not happen. So I put it away that I don't have lyme. Since the Dr. was also never 100% telling me that I do. I am now pregnant with baby #3 and I think my symptoms are starting, 3 years later. I have had a headache for 4 days straight now, it starts at my temples and goes to the back of the head, it's been excruciating, have not had this since 2007, last night I couldn't sleep, I was itching all over and my left leg was hurting.

I am just wondering what is going on with me, did I have lyme, do my symptoms sound like ms, lyme is it just a pregnancy headache, or is it just anxiety? I am so confused already, do lyme symptoms go away for 3 years and come back??

Have you thought about going back to Dr. H and seeing what he thinks now? Or you could see the Physician's assistant, which would be cheaper.

As far as I know, Lyme symptoms can disappear than reappear.

Dr. H has a lot of experience with Lyme, so he would probably be able to give you an idea if what has happened with you sounds like something Lyme does, or doesn't do.

Basically, I don't know if what you are experiencing is Lyme or not. What city do you live in in CA?

The hormones of pregnancy do suppress the immune system, so I can see why that could cause the Lyme to flare.

On the other hand, the doctor is right, most women with Lyme feel great during pregnancy, then feel really terrible after having the baby. It doesn't really make sense, since like I said, your immune system is worse during pregnancy, but that is what is observed in most pregnancies with Lyme (better while pregnant, worse after).

However, maybe you are en exception? I'm sure there are always exceptions. Most women feel better while pregnant with Lyme, but I do know of one that started to feel worse, so her doctor was sure to increase her treatment. But it's important the antibiotics used are safe for the fetus, of course.

If you are worried, you could try seeing another Lyme doctor in CA that isn't Dr. H, so that's why I asked what city you are in.

Otherwise, you could try seeing Dr. H, because maybe now that your symptoms are flaring again, he would change his mind on what he thinks it is.

Good luck!

Marline,

Please refrain from using a doctor's name in your posts on Lymenet.

We refer to doctors using only their initial and state. So for example, "Dr. H in CA."

You'll see this in rule #5 under the Terms of Use: http://www.lymenet.org/terms.shtml

I edited your post to remove the name.

Thank you for understanding!

Just be sure to "keep on top of it".... it would be wise to get checked out again.

That's how my Lyme was for years and years and years. I was able to keep it under control with diet and exercise. I had five pregnancies and the last three got worse and worse. The first two were okay. My last three were horrible. My OB never believed me, he thought I was exaggerating normal pregnancy symptoms.

Then after the pregnancies because of my clean diet and exercise, I would go back into remission.

I did have three times that the fatigue became disabling outside of pregnancy. All three had potential mold exposure and an unusual amount of stress. Then diet, exercise, supplements, amalgam removal, rest, and sunshine made me better until the third pregnancy.

THEN, I got bitten again. That is when I got too sick to control and became disabled.

Maybe you could set up a phone consultation to talk about herbs to take during pregnancy or at least to get his opinion. I don't think he'll start you on abx without seeing you again. If your immune system is strong enough to normally keep it under control and pregnancy has brought it out, I'm thinking something less than abx might be the way to go, just basing it on my experience since it's SO similar to yours.

I'm not a doctor though, but that's my experience.

I live in Los Angeles and I never even had the bite or anything, the only reason I even thought it could be lyme is because of all the symptoms. They either pointed to lyme or ms, and my clear mris made me think lyme. My main concern is my headache right now, it's excruciating and I'm going on day 5. Just wonder did I ever have lyme to begin with, if so, why did the doc never continue medication and why was he not so persistant on me having lyme, he always said borderline.

sixgoofykids,

What symptoms did you have when with your 3 last pregnancies?
