I've only been on 200/2xday Doxy for about a week. I started taking it after I saw the rash and one week after camping when I presumably was bitten.

I had a lot of nausea this weekend, then another different looking rash appeared (speckly) Saturday night. I felt plain sick, toxic and super nauseated on Sunday, sore throat, and I've been exhausted all day today. I've been feeling a lot of pressure in my head, a pressure head ache, and my ears feel full, my eyes feel fuzzy. I feel way out of it, need to lie down.

I thought being treated this early would wipe out any symptoms other than the initial rash. Any ideas? Herxing? Co-infections? Side effects? Just a virus?

I am also really wondering if Doxy is all I should be taking. Dr J says for only three weeks but Dr B says for 6 weeks past symptoms. And then does it really cover all of the co-infections?

Sorry for tailspinning here. I've watched all of you for the last year go through this, plus treating my son. Not pleased that I've entered the door with my own bite/rash.

The nausea and the rash could be from the doxy itself. The other symptoms sound like a herx to me.

The doxy will cover lyme and ehrlichiosis... not babesia.

I would take for 6 wks after symptoms are gone.

Good luck!!

The symptoms you describe have been described on this board by many, many lyme patients. So, I believe it is some tick-borne disease--either lyme or a coinfection. It would be very coincidental for you to happen to get a virus right now, don't you think?

I completed my lyme treatment 5 years ago and I am stil symptom-free, enjoying my life. But in late August 2008, I was again bitten by a tick.

I got to my lyme doc within a week of the bite. I had the bulls eye rash. He put me on 2 antibiotics for 30 days, with instructions to continue meds longer if I got symptoms. The only symptom I ever got was the rash.

The 2 meds I was given (doxy and Bactrim DS) treated lyme, ehrlichia, babesiosis, and bartonella. So, I consider that proper treatment. I had a mild herx on the third day of meds. The herx was a lack of stamina all day. I would go outside and do something for maybe 20 minutes and would have to come in the house and lay down for an hour. All day long like this.

Since I never deveoped any constitutional symptoms, I was done in 30 days.

You, however, have developed many. Therefore, your case falls under "disseminated disease" according to Burrascano.

So, you must treat 2 months past resolution of all symptoms (4 to 6 months typical).

You may think this is your first tick bite, but perhaps this bite simply increased the germ load to a point that your body could no longer handle it and the symptoms came out. That could be why the doxy didn't work. Or, if you did not start the doxy soon enough after the bite. Or, if you have coinfections.

Since getting rid of lyme disease, I have made lifstyle changes like no more walking in woods, no more picking berries along side of the road, etc. My lyme doc told me very clearly that this was the rule for me for the rest of my life.

I know I attract ticks, so if I go where they are, it is only a matter of time before I get lyme again.

My lyme doc has name recognition. So, you might seriously want to get the Bactrim DS to cover bart and babs. And keep a record of your symptoms so that you can tell them to your lyme doc.

I wish you the best. PM me if I can help you further.
