Hello,

Just recently diagnosed. Bit by a tick 5 years ago. After 2 weeks of treatment which included Plaquenil, Probenicid, Nystatin, Cefdiner(Omnicef) and Zithromax, my doctor gave me Biaxin. The reason was that my insurance company wasn't covering enough pills of the zithromax. So anyway, I took 2 doses of the Biaxin yesterday and woke up with terrible heart palps and kind of a racing heart. Wasn't sure if that was panic or not. I also just felt like I was "buzzing" all over. A tremendous fog and bizarre feeling. Can't describe it any different.

The dr thinks it was a flair up, or I guess herx. But anyone have anything similar with Biaxin?

If Biaxin makes me feel that way, I'd rather go back to the Zithromax even if I have to pay out of pocket for some of the darn doses.

Thanks for any help/advice.

when i first took biaxin after about two doses i had severe hallucinations. the ceiling was waving back and forth and i actually saw large scorpions and insects.

scared me to death.

it's a herx. take it from me and others. stay the course tho. it's one of the, if not the, best drugs for lyme.

do not look back when the only course is forward

I was started on Biaxin for Wa-1 when I was first Dx.

The heart palps were a given. I actually slept for the first 5 days only waking to take more meds and use the bathroom.

When I woke up after those first five days, the relief was amazing. I could actually almost stand up straight! [Smile]

The heart palps cycled for a few months and then subsided. I was on Biaxin for about five months.

My thoughts your experiencing die off [Wink]

Hang in there it will get better!

Been on 1,000 mg.s Biaxin a day for about 6 months.

In the beginning of treatment I got alot of heart palp.s and anxiety. LLMD as well as Pharmacist confirmed that those symptoms can be side effect of the medication.

For me it was not a herx but rather a side effect that was remedied by splitting my dose 3 hours apart. Now I take 500mg.s at 8am and 500mg.s at 11am.

Thanks to all for responding. Does Zithromax not have the same efficacy as Biaxin? I only asked because I don't seem to experience heart palps on it.

This is a tough one for me, as heart palpitations (and 3 bouts of atrial fibrillation) over the past 5 years have been part of my symptoms.

I will keep going with Biaxin for now, but man I don't want to...:-)

Drew, I know it's one of the worst feelings!

Just saying....I feel for you!

Heart palps were a symptom for me before starting treatment, hence the reason I didn't look to the Biaxin as a root cause.

They also cycled for me and subsided in frequency and intensity while on the Biaxin.
