So...you know I'm a newbie.
I'm on day 18 of 400 mg of Doxy and just finished my second 3 day pulse of 1000mg of Flagyl every 2 weeks. Also taking 4.5 mg of LDN, Nystatin, and GSE, Oil of Oregano, Multivitamin, Super B Complex, Florastore, Theralac, Acidophilus, Lipoic Acid, etc.
I'm feeling okay. Energy is good (rarely was bad.) Balance is good. Ears still ring and full, but much better than March (got better before I even started to treat.) Legs and back muscles ache from time to time.
I haven't had what I would recognize as a "herx" yet. Is this normal? I have read from most how they have BAD reactions almost immediatley starting treatment. Not me. I had one day on day 2 of my first flagyl pulse where I felt wiped out. That was it.
Could it be that my meds are too low? Or is my germ load low? My CD-57 was 84..which I know is high for someone with Lyme.

Yes. Especially if you detox well. It's generally believed to be the toxins that make you feel bad.

I guess the problem is I question whether I Feel better also. I mean...I'm pretty high functioning. my vision and ears are the most bothersome, but more annoying than anything.
I don't know if I've made progress since starting treatment. I'm certainly much better than I was in Feb-april...but I think that was my Labyrinthitis resolving (caused by Lyme.) I don't know if, since starting treatment on 5/10, I have made any improvements.

How did you even know you have Lyme? Found a tick? Tested positive?
I'm just asking because you don't sound very symptomatic. My guess would be that if you aren't too symptomatic to begin with, you may not herx. Maybe the antibiotic and your immune system will "conquer" the infection effectively and you won't experience much in the process.
Not everyone herxes, and my guess is that for those not experiencing disabling symptoms, the incidence of herxing is much lower.

Okay..brief history.
november 2009: Got what I thought was stomach flue while in Germany. But it wasn't. Fever, chills, hot flashes, sweating, nauseous, volatile bowel. Felt better in a day, but would sweat and have chills. Then had dizziness with hearburn for a week. Then okay.
January 2010: Periods of nagging nausea
February 2010: Got sick in germany again. Like in November, but not as bad. 3 days later got dizzy like in November. This didn't go away. I would have periouds of chills, sweating, flushing, cold hands and felt drunk. Thought it was GI related and went to GI doc. Gallbladder exam done and okay. Upper endoscopy done...have gastritis.
march 2010: Though my problems were due to stress. Went to a chiropractor. Adjusted my back, shoulders, neck and jaw. Felt good for 3 days, other than noticing odd muscle aches in legs. Then went for second chiro adustment and came out very dizzy. Ears started to feel full after taking a flight. Then ears started to ring full time. Night sweats, anxiety, depression setting in. Vision was weird..seeing light patches, shimmering vision, floaters, worms in periphery. Very dizzy...not vertigo. ENT did initial test for Lyme (negative) and a battery of vestibular tests. All normal. Did 10 days of amoxicillin just in case it was a sinus infection. Also got splints for jaw, thinking it was TMJ.
April 2010: Went to an LLMD who did Igenex test. While awaiting results, went to a neuro to did a brain MRI w/ contrast. Normal except for suggestion of bilateral cortical atrophy of parital lobe. Ordered EEG and Brain Spect. EEG normal. Brain spect was abnormal with diffuse abnormalities and no clear diagnosis. The next day, I found out my Igenex results. Igenex / CDC positive in IgM with 23/25, 31, 34, 41, 83/93 all positive. IgG negative (41 IND). LLMD says I've had it at least 1 year given I had bands 31 and 34 as these are long term bands that take 1 year to show up.
So..a long explaination, I know. But yes. I think it is Lyme. Looking back I was having odd, mild leg aches / cramps all in 2009. I was blowing them off thinking it was due to my travel. I also had ear pain while flying all year. Mild. But there.
I have since had my CD-57 done which was 84. high, but not "normal." I also suspect bart (given my gastritis and sweats) and babs (given dizziness).
If it wasn't Lyme..why would I have tested positive. Sure..maybe it was due to the Amoxy that I did before getting the Igenex test. (ended amoxy 3 days before tested.) But then why would I have the abnormal spect scan and low CD-84?
It's gotta be lyme & co.

I've been treating for 21 months and think I have herxed 3 times. I felt like I was coming down with the flu with body aches. They all lasted less than 24 hours each.
My symptoms are mild, but I do feel better on the abx. I am lucky that I feel better pretty quickly, but from what I read here, I don't think 18 days is enough to feel noticeably better, usually.
I just ramped up my abx, so it's possible my doses were too low to cause a herx.

You will know when you've been treating a while. Eighteen days is nothing with Lyme. Give it time. If in a couple months you're not feeling better, you might need different meds.
