So, I got lucky and a very well known LLMD had a cancellation and was able to take me 2 months ahead of my scheduled visit. Given my history and some previous tests confirming Lyme and other tests showing borderline results, the doctor started me on Mepron 5ml 2x/day., Omnicef 300mg 2x/day and Azithromycin 500mg 1x/day.

Any side effects I should be worried about? Any diet advice or how to take these medications? Does anybody else have a similar regimen.

I am also going to be going on IV antibiotics, but I am first having a brain scan done (not an MRI, but a Spect scan?) and also had blood work sent to IGeneX. So, the IV is pending those results....

This is quite a difference from the 100mg 2x/day of Doxy I was on from a "conventional doctor" So, while I'm excited to really attack this, I'm also a little nervous. Overkill? I don't know what to believe anymore, it took a year of endless appointments and b/s diagnoses (migraines, stress, etc) to get to this point.

Be sure you eat something fatty when you take Mepron. This will help it to be absorbed properly.

If you have not done so, you may want to read Dr. B's treatment guidelines at http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf He discusses supportive therapy starting on page 27.

Good luck with your treatment!

Looks like a great combo! Be sure to take probiotics as mentioned before. Also be sure you eat enough with those meds, Omnicef and Zith can be hard on your gut.

Wow that's starting out with a lot.
Is the LLMD having you add the abx one at a time, slowly?

I certainly would not suggest starting all 3 at once...If you have any bad or allergic reactions you will have no idea which abx caused it unless you start them at least a week apart.

Do you have any health concerns that might make you have concerns about a really bad Herx?

Like I have adrenal failure so it is difficult for me to tolerate a big herx.

Zithromax is really hard on the flora in gut, so make sure you take alot of probiotics...I use Pearls brand. Can purchase at walmart or is cheaper to order online from Vitacost.

Did the LLMD prescribe an anti-fungal, Nystatin or Diflucan?

You will need it with a high dose Abxs.

I know we all want to get well, but take it as slow as you need...If you start one abx and herx really bad you may want to consult LLMD and stay with one abx for a while. Everyone is different :-)

Blessings
Paulette

Thanks for all of the feedback! I am currently taking a pro-biotic prescribed by a complementary physician who is tops in the field. I take Dr Ohirra's Probiotics 12 Plus. I spoke to him about all of these medications, and he said to cut out Vitamin E, CoQ10 and Lipoic Acid. Apparently these can interfere with the absorption of the Mepron.

I'm taking a multitude of supplements, including getting Meyer's cocktails twice a week. The LLMD said I couldn't be on a better regimen for supplements, and that the complementary physician I am seeing is by far the best. If anybody wants the complementary physicians name in NYC, send me a message. He's not an LLMD, but he knows everything there is to know about what to take and how to eat on these various medications. I know there's a heightened sensitivity to drop names in here....

As far as nutrition. I pretty much eat what's referred to as the Paleo Diet. Basically, I try to eat as our pre-historic ancestors did. Meat, fruit and vegetables. No grains, sugar, starchy vegetables, nightshades or various refined foods. It has done quite a bit to make me feel better, and handle all that is going on. Not to mention, I lost 40 pounds eating this way!

I feel that after the long search of finding these doctors, and from your help in here, I am FINALLY on the road to recovery.

Thank you!!!

I take zith and Mepron now and am on IV Rocephin.

Previously I took Omnicef. My dosages are/were different from yours but each of these treatments in their own way helped me.

I wish you the best of luck.
