I am hoping someone might be able to provide me with some answers on the board. I found a bullseye rash on my leg on Saturday night. It was the size of a pencil eraser. I saw the doctor (family doc) who put me on doxycycline. By Monday, I had one episode of light headedness but didn't think much of it. Tuesday, really light headed, went to the dr's and my blood pressure was high (which it never is)so the dr took me off the doxy but didn't prescribe anything else because I am allergic to penicillin and possibly keflex (recall a rash once my stomach one when I took it so the listed me as allergic)and said if I get flu like symptoms and/or the rash comes back to come in and to get tested in 4 weeks. When I checked this am, there is a very faint (and I mean faint) ring around where the original bullseye was. Now of course I am so nervous because I don't know what else they would treat me with. Also, I should note that the original bullseye went away within 2 hours of the first dose of doxy. Any advise or help would be appreciated.

Also, the faint bullseye rash which is now there is much larger than the original. It is about the size of an egg, and I was on the doxy for three full doses at 100 mg per dose 2x a day

They can treat you with Ceftin if you can't take doxy. You should be on abx at least 8 weeks.

Make sure to take a picture of your bull's eye.

Yes, there are other options.

It's very common for the rash size to change. Does it hurt? Itch? Is it hot? Don't scratch it.

If it is bearable, it may not be a bad sign but just a lyme flair - and if you continue it may subside. But, if it is painful, that may not be the best idea.

I get 8-13 silver dollar sized bulls eye rashes within an hour of doxycycline - and I've tried that about five times over a couple years, hoping I could take it again, but each time, severe reactions.

I did take it for a full 2 months and then took a break when the rash reaction started. It itched and was very hot and incredibly painful so I just could not continue.

Even with just one dose (once two doses) . . . the rashes would last for a week - 10 days. It's been over 1.5 years since my last trial and I still have a few faint grey scars from the rashes.

Mine also had that ring, and the center was raised and nearly volcanic. What was most amazing is that they appeared in exactly the same spots each time. Doxy is sure off my list.

It sounds like the doctor treating you does not know of all the options.

This explains WHY you need an ILADS LLMD or ILADS LL ND (naturopathic doctor) to guide your treatment protocol based on knowledge from ILADS ( www.ilads.org ).

Is a ZPack an option? I seem to tolerate those well. I was also thinking about asking them to give me a scratch test to truly determine what antibiotics I am allergic to. Any thoughts, and how would I go about finding an ILADS LLMD or an ILADS LL ND?

Also, is Ceftin an option if I am allergic to pennicilin?

Also, I am not so concerned about the rash and its increase in size as I am to the high blood pressure that the doxy caused. Now I am worried that they won't be able to treat me with anything.

Also, is it worth getting tested right now even though I only found the rash on Saturday?

Ditto to onbam: it's best to make "an appointment with a lyme-literate doctor immediately."

Take a couple good photos of that rash.
