Both my boys have been treating for a little over a year.

My youngest is the sickest. Most of his symptoms come out at night and he doesn't sleep. It gets worse and worse. Like it was 1am, then 3am, then 5am, then 7am and now last night it was 9am this morning before he went to sleep!

Yes I have tried every sleep herb you can imagine!! This has been going on for over a year!

Nothing works because he also gets most of his symptoms at night so even if he falls asleep he wakes up with stomach aches, random pains, etc.

So we have tried many antibiotics and he is now on Rifampin and Omnicef. Both at the same time.

So I starting thinking...maybe he can not tolerate 2 at one time? Like maybe he should just take 1 abx at a time...or ask doc to pulse them like my treatments?

I plan to talk to the LLMD about this at our next appt, end of July. But until then I may try to just give him one and see if that helps at all.

If you had to pick which would you stay on? I am thinking Rifampin. He has Mycoplasma and possible Bartonella also.

Also does anyone else have a hard time taking 2 at once or could I be wrong about this?

It's very hard to get a hold of my LLMD on the phone so I appreciate anyones input and experiences!

Thanks!

Amy,

I assume that you are still seeing midwest Dr. H, right?

My wife was treated for about a year under his care to nowhere. So we recently changed our doctor to the east coast Dr. H. And he is giving my wife something like 6 or 7 meds all at once, including bicillin IM. So my guess is that two meds at once is not too much, depending on the condition.

PM me if you have further questions. Good luck. It sounds like a struggle.

So sorry to hear this. Insomnia was one of my childrens' symptoms as well. It is so hard to deal with this.

I would not give Rifampin alone, as my LLMD (Dr. J in CT) told me that it can become ineffective in a couple of days with monotherapy. You apparently need another abx with it.

Can you list your son's symptoms? Do you think he has babesia? I ask because when my kids were on the combo or azith, Mepron and bactrim (and artemisinin), their insomnia went away in about 7 months. We were hitting bart, babs and lyme with that. One of my kids was on Omnicef, bactrim and Mepron since azith gave him tummy aches.

Do you think it is possible that one of the meds is hurting his stomach? That pain could cause insomnia. I know that stomach pain can be from lyme, bart, etc, but you can normally determine if it is related to the meds by stopping them for a couple of days and then starting them up one at a time. I would ask your LLMD about this, but you might try stopping them both and then adding in the omnicef first to see what happens. Then a few days later add in the rifampin to see if anything changes.

Perhaps your son can take 2 meds at once, but you have to make sure they are ones he can tolerate.

Does he ever get night sweats when he sleeps or does he sweat a lot during the day? Any other babesia symptoms?

Best of luck to you.

Tick battler, I saw seeing a world-class LLMD who Rxed Rifampin monotherapy w/o concerns. Maybe Dr. J is wrong?
