My son started with this on his face. It is getting worse and I am wondering what you have done to treat this, or if you have any info. I am sure it is autoimmune. Did you see an immunologist, dermatologist, endocrinologist.... Posts: 758 | From now TX | Registered: Mar 2001

Funny, I always thought there was a link. I got my first spots at age 30.
Spread like wildfire after the IVIG.
It didn't bother me much as I had my kids already and was married.
I recently went to a tanning salon and was spray tanned. I couldn't believe how it covered up the Vitiligo spots. They said 7-10 days it would last before needing it again, but so far it's been a week and still looking tan. No harmful rays to deal with and it's all FDA approved.
I bought their product to use on the Vitiligo spots when they do wear off and I used it today and it instantly covered the spots that were fading. This is unlike the other products that turn orange. It gives a deep golden tan that is hard to detect that it's artificial with the naked eye.
PM me if you want.

The above links show comparison of one of my hands and one of my knees before and after this tanning spray application.
Hope that helps you. I've had it now for 10 years and if it's vitiligo, thats how it progresses usually in a bilateral progression. i.e., if it's on the right hand, then it looks close the same on the right.
The same holds true for the feet, elbows, neck, face, etc.
I'm lucky in that it never reached my face.
And yes, I do/did have Bart. I don't seem to have the symptoms as of about 2 weeks now, so if your thinking bart is the culprit, then I should start repigmenting I would think, but who knows if there really is a correlation ? Just a hunch on my side.

My dad has vitilago, it eventually involved every body part & at age 74 he has no pigment left in his skin. Wasn't that devastating though, as he was blonde/blue eyed.
It is an autoimmune disorder and can be inherited. My brother also has vitilago, for him it was more obvious, ss he was darker skinned with jet black hair. At age 52, he also has little pigment left.
Other relatives have this also. Not sure there is an effective treatment & it has just run it's course.
Other than making sure to wear sunscreen to prevent burns, vitilago has had very little effect. Just a part of life.
