What have your docs said are a must? What have you found that works great for you? Any particular brands that are better? Anything to stay away from?

I've been told to stay away from Dollar Store supplements as well as Walmart, etc. What are your thoughts on Drug Store supplements/vitamins? Where do you buy? Online?

I have info from my doc but would also like some personal opinions. I've been on antibiotics for just about 3 weeks (minus the couple of days when I was herxing)but haven't yet been able to start the alternative treatments.

I'm putting my list together today and will be heading to the health food store early next week. I don't want to miss anything but keep in mind I am fairly low budget.

Thanks for your help and I apologize if I am repeating [Smile]

I would suggest reading "The Real Truth About Vitamins and Antioxidants" by Judith DeCava and
"New Dimensions in Herbal Healing" by Jack Tips PhD ND.

These may give you a clearer understanding of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

I have seen some people with 2 large paper bags full of supplements that did not do much for them.

People have different opinions about this but I believe magnesium and B12 are critical because they are depleted by lyme.

D3 is another controversial vitamin but I feel much better when I take it. I always get worse in winter and I believe it is a lack of D3. It is thought to be the reason why virus' are so strong in winter and is now know to help prevent cancer.

I also take alpha lipoic acid because it is a powerful antioxidant and helps with detox. I buy it in combination with Acetyl L Carnitine which is very good for the brain, boosting memory, and helps with energy.

Co Enzyme Q10 helps with neuro disorders and is a powerful antioxidant. Chlorella is a natural neurotoxin detoxification.

Grapefruit seed extract is also good for the brain and thought to kill the cyst form of lyme as well as yeast.

A daily probiotic is essential if you are on ABX.
Omega 3 Fatty acids like fish oil are anti-inflammatory and improve kidney function. It can also help stabilize hormones and reduce depression.

There are others you can take for specific problems. Quercetin is supposed to be good to reduce inflammation. Stephania helps with neuro and eye inflammation.

Biofilms, lactoferrin, nattokinase and cystine.

I was trying to find the name of another supplement I wanted to try when I saw your post. I got my book out Lyme Disease Solution because I couldn't remember WHY and WHAT all this was stuff was good for exactly.

Regarding nefferdun about the D3, I totally agree. Before I started taking higher amounts of D3, the fatigue, weakness in my body, especially arms (ragdoll type feel) and legs along with that really heavy feeling like wearing a lead suit as one member describes it was SO much worse for me.

After upping my Vit D3 intake, I noticed a big difference in those things.

I take a separate 2000 IU of D3 daily, so added with my other supps that have D3, I take around 3200 IU a day. And, would take up to 5000 IU daily without worry. You can read a little more if interested here:
http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/

I also take Osteo BiFlex, Fish Oil, definitely probiotics (Now on iFlora w/16 strains, 16 billion cells) and Nature Made products that are USP certified:

Multi-Vitamin
Vitamin C
Vitamin D3
Vitamin E
Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc combo

Sometimes I can't find the brands I want so I'll have to switch to something else, but I try to buy USP certified. You can get the brands and where to buy them on their website:
http://www.usp.org/USPVerified/

Also, I have bought some stuff from the following online:

http://www.stopagingnow.com/
The above website was recommended by the Vitamin D council, so I bought my first D3 with them, but now just buy Nature Made w/USP certified. They have other supplements and claim to be an FDA inspected lab that is USP certified, all products made in the USA with a 180 return for any reason policy.

I would have kept buying from them, but they went up on the Vit D3 and with shipping, it was just cheaper to buy Nature Made USP certified at Target.

Swanson's has a huge inventory of all kinds of things. They also have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and if you find a cheaper product, they will give you double your money back. They go by GMP (good manufacturing practices) too.

And, your LLMD will probably have many supps/herbs for you to take. One thing with that though, you may be able to find cheaper elsewhere, so after you buy from your LLMD check around, just make sure they have the exact ingredients in them.

My LLMD does not push anything on me and if I can find cheaper, then it's encouraged to buy elsewhere as long as it's exactly the same.

But, so far, almost everything has been cheaper with my LLMD, except probiotics and any regular type vitamins.

Also, you can always check for online coupons to use in stores or for your online purchases. I have seen $5.00 off coupons for Osteo Bi-Flex.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I don't have much to add since I'm still fairly new to all these herbs and supps. but I second the mag-I have really bad air hunger and it hasn't been as bad since I added the mag.

Probiotics are a must!

I'm with the previous poster who said their LLMD doesn't push it but it is usually cheaper with them. It is the same way with my LLMD. Except if I need it during a time when I'm not going into see them it would be cheaper for me to buy it locally since I have to pay them shipping as well.

In my case personally, in addition to some of what other posters have said, I would consider adding methyl B12 shots and Perdue Sciences version of Circumin for supplements, plus chlorella and a weekly (at minimum) Xeneplex suppository for detox.

Maybe toss in milk thistle for the liver in the latter category as well. (I have never taken it, but many other do.)

Nefferdun has a good list.

If you have pain, definitely buy some glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM .. all in one supp.

I buy Jarrow from Vitacost. Very cheap and it works.
