My kids and I all all treated for lyme. My husband has never been tested, and has been seemingly asymptomatic. He got a tick bite about 6 weeks ago. He did not get a rash, but has been feeling uncharacteristically tired. What dose doxy should he start with while we are waiting for testing and/or appt with LLMD for him? I was thinking 100mg 2 or three times a day. Which?

Thanks

I believe 400 mg of Doxy daily is typically prescribed. Check out Dr. B's treatment guidelines at http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Antibiotics and dosages are listed starting on page 18.

200 mg twice daily is more typical.

It looks like the regular doctor only wants to prescribe 100 twice daily. Is this typical to start at this and work up, or this typical of a non-LLMD?

YES. Sad to say. That is why so many become chronic.

Low dose doxy can work if taken long term......meaning one to two years; and if you have had other treatment prior to it. I say this from experience.

For an early case of LD I would think a larger dose would be best; but go with what you can get your hands on until you get to a LLMD.
