After hormone testing, and receiving results that indicate low levels of aldosterone and progesterone, my LLMD has prescribed compounded progesterone, compounded estradiol cream and florinef.
Does anyone have any experience with any of these? I'm a bit freaked out about taking hormones.
Also, in regards to compounded prescriptions, how do I find a reputable pharmacy that does this? I live in a fairly small town and there aren't many, if any, options here.
Is there a lab/pharmacy that mixes and mails, so to speak? Is that an option? I have no idea!
Thanks for any help/advice!

The hormone question has been discussed here many times. Try doing a search of this website. There's alot of good info.
PS - You can also try doing a search on Google for compounding pharmacies. I'm sure there are some that will do it via mail or the internet.

Not at all about lyme - or the endocrine problems with lyme - but this book is a great place to begin. You can also get it from your library or they can order it by interlibrary loan. It is in the national library system.

Sparkle, Thanks! I did a search but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I'll try some different terms next time.
Keebler, Thank you! This looks like some good info/sources!

- Melanie, you can trust your LLMD on this. It really helped me for time and now I don't need it. Don't be scared into thinking you need anything forever. Once stabile and your body is not working so hard later to fight lyme, etc., your plan may well change.
This can help support your body.
BioIdentical hormones absolutely make sense for many women. They can help your body heal and transition. I could never have managed a few months without them. I tried everything first.
Please watch all of those videos from Oprah's program. She facilitated some very nice discussions. Seeing some of the fantastic progress with a few women is really empowering. Balance is key.
Oh, you can also ask for the hormones to be put in an olive oil gel cap/suppository from Women's International Pharmacy.
----------------------------------
When you search, go to Google ADVANCED and then you can put in full terms.
I found some of that post with this term: "compounding pharmacy"
- if you search the regular way at Google, use quotation marks around your terms. Or + between words in a phrase ( compounding+pharmacy )
If at Google ADVANCED, there are more option. Google Scholar sometimes weeds out the advertising sites and www.Bing.com is just easier on the eyes.
Bing.com - less trash and flash on the pages. Beautiful photos.
Melanie, although shipping usually does just fine (considering summer heat and the post - an ice pack may be mailed with your order) &/or you can go to this page and type in your town or closest city for local options to check.

I'm getting a bit excited for my progesterone
Keebler, So compounded hormones are also referred to as BioIdentical? I didn't know this and it will certainly aid in my research. I will definitely watch the Oprah clips--I'm looking forward to it!
I'm a big fan of google and I've used Bing on occasion--love the pics, lol! How sad is it that I didn't realize there was a"Google Advance"? Ugh, I'm so behind in the times!

You don't have to stay on hormones forever! You may need them to help you get through a certain period of time. Without going into too much personal detail, I know from experience that sometimes taking hormones is a must.

I've been on bio-identical hormones for 1 year and 5 months. I will be on them for the rest of my life. I'm 64 years old so I do need them.
Didn't your LLMD suggest a pharmacy that does compounding?
I have them compounded by a local compounding pharmacy where I live.
It's usually the smaller pharmacy that does the compounding. Make a few phone calls to smaller pharmacies in your area, you might be surprised that there is someone nearby that does compounding.
Lionville Natural Pharmacy in Exton, Pa does a lot of compounding and will ship.

Elaine, No, he didn't suggest a pharmacy. I'm out-of-state and didn't even realize they were to be compounded until the pharmacist mentioned that he could not fill the script.
I plan to call my LLMD tomorrow but was just looking for some input today
Thanks for the pharmacy info. I will also check around my area but like I mentioned above, we're in a small town and there aren't many options.
