Hi everyone,

I have to start Pulse therapy, but I cannot get to my LLMD right now, so I have to start on my own. I have Doxycycline which I am very responsive to... My question is about dosing. I know I'm doing 3 days on, 4 days off.
quote:
"The efficacy of this regimen is based on the fact that it takes 48 to 72 hours of continuous bactericidal antibiotic levels to kill the spirochete, yet it will take longer than the four to five days between pulses for the spirochetes to recover." (The Burrascano Guidelines)
The B. Guidelines also say that dosages are doubled during Pulse Therapy and usually given parentally.

Well, Doxycycline reaches the blood in about the same levels whether it's IV or oral. I currently take 200mg twice a day, so would it make sense that when I do the "pulse," to take 400mg at one dosing?
quote:
"Kill kinetics indicate that a large spike in blood and tissue levels is more effective than sustained levels, which is why with doxycycline, oral doses of 200 mg bid is more effective than 100 mg qid. Likewise, this is why IV doses of 400 mg once a day is more effective than any oral regimen." (The B. Guidelines)
I wanted to hear from those of you who have maybe done Pulse Therapy, especially if you've ever done it with Doxycycline. Thank you [Smile]

It's hard to know. I'm pulsing Tetra...3 weeks on, three weeks off... (with Mep and Diflucan at the same time)

I accidentally took 200 mg Doxy x 4 for two weeks in my very first round of Lyme ABX (doctor had sloppy handwriting) and I herxed like a crazy person!

I think it would be a difficult dose to tolerate - but then again if you are pulsing........... It took me two weeks to figure it out (I ran out of meds)! Oh, the memories....

I've been on that dose of Doxy before so I know I can "handle" it... It's just, like you briefly mentioned, hard to find someone who has done pulse therapy with Doxy! All signs would point to a one-time knock out dose of 400mg but if anyone had personal experience I would be glad to hear it. [Smile]
