My 11 yr old who is treating lyme, bartonella and mycoplamsa for about 16 months now has been having stabbing pains in his chest for a few weeks I think. (just found this out cause he didn't tell me it was on going until today)

He says it's his heart but I hope it's his stomach! He does get some stomach issues and takes prevacid. Recently ran out of that so I bought some pepcid from the store until we can get to the doc's.

Oh and he takes Rifampin & Omnicef.

Does anyone think I should be concerned about this or do you think it could be a herx? I used to get stabbing pains a lot before I started treatment. Maybe I should ask the doc to do an echo?

Any ideas please share. Thanks!

When I was younger, I had chest pains that they attributed to my stomach (and was on Prevacid for a bit).

Since I've been treating for Lyme, I have a different kind of pain. They've tested me for everything - EKGs, Echos, X-Rays, etc. I do have a mild MVP, but other than that, no heart issues.

They're attributing it to either inflammation or nerve pain. Personally, I feel a lot better knowing that I got checked out, though. Chest pains are kind of scary.

I have 3 young children with lyme and found it's very helpful to ask them several times/day if anything hurts. They often do not say anything unless asked! I would also ask him exactly where the pain is so you can determine yourself if it is in the chest or stomach area.

One of my 6 year old twin boys would get chest pains when we stopped his babesia meds. Once we started up again, they would go away. You might consider researching this coinfection - most with lyme do have babesia.

Also note that once you knock down one coinfection, another often seems to surface, so it is very possible that the babesia symptoms are coming out now that he has been on treatment for other infections. My kids only tested positive for babs after about a year into treatment.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks! I do suspect Babesia also. I have more symptoms of it then he does. (night sweats & air hunger has been bad for me lately!) But maybe like tickbattler says it can be coming out now for him.

My other son has abnormal tests with his red blood cells. I am thinking that is an indication of Babs but not sure? I suspect he has anemia based on some of his symptoms and test results.

Yes I should ask the boys more often and not assume they will tell me. Good idea.

It seems to be his chest and not his stomach that he points to. But I know sometimes the stomach pain can be felt up higher. I do plan to ask the llmd to consider doing some tests as a precaution though.

Just wondered who else had this problem and what thoughts everyone had? Thanks again!

My daughter had Lyme when she was six, and chest pain - and chest heaviness were her first symptoms. She had an arrythmia that went away with treatment - for Lyme, not Babesia.

One of the most severe symptoms my son had with lyme was the heart palpations and PVC's that would knock him for a loop. He ended up in the ER about 3 times and as usual, nothing was found. He also had sore ribs that we are told is probably from Babesia.
