Just wondering if any of you have vertigo, constant loud tinnitus or other ear problems with lyme. This is how it all started out for me with new symptoms added in along the way.
Hope to hear from you soon

- Ear symptoms of all kinds are very common with lyme. Specifically for LYME patients - lots of details about ears and what can help:

That is how i found out I had Lyme. My ears wouldn't stop ringing. It sux. I hate the noise.
Yes, They are still ringing. I have like a hyper sensitivity to loud sounds as well. I can't tolerate loud sounds at all, it actually hurts my head. it is like someone hit me physically. Sounds hurt. Not all the time, but a lot of the time. I know there is a technical word for it but i forget what it is called. It is like my brain can't turn the volume down.
Yes, I have had a hearing test, and MRI and lots of other tests. No one seems to be able to help that hissing/ringing to go away.
The ENT Dr was no help at all, she is NOT lyme friendly at all and is no longer my Dr. She did discover i have lost some of my hearing and i have Lyme. She said my ears will always be ringing and 2 weeks of Doxy cures Lyme.... umm yeah who's the dummy here ? Just because they have MD after their name doesn't make them smart eh ? Eeeeekkkkkk don't go to the female ENT DR in L3w1sburg Pa and think you will get quality care. Lol
MY LLMD seems to think that in time the hyper sensitivity will get bettter, no real word on the ringing, it may go away it may be here to stay.
I have read that vitamin b12 levels that are low can provoke this. Mine were low, a down-side of not eating meat, but a supplement is an easy fix for that at least. i now take a larger b12 supplement but still the ringing. I just keep reading looking for something that may help, but in my case I just don't know... they haven't stopped ringing so ... that is a bad sign.
Jackie81 is the ringing in both ears ?
Have you noticed if anything makes the ringing less loud for you ?

- Shades of Purple,
"a hyper sensitivity to loud sounds" is called Hyperacusis. Please be sure to read that thread posted. So much is explained there, so much. But the bottom line is: treat infection(s); support the body.
Your LLMD should be working on treating the infection(s); the thread discusses ways you can support the body to lessen vestibular symptoms along the way. -

Ear issues are one of my primary symptoms. I was dizzy first, then got stuffy ears ,and finally tinnitus. Went to the ENT who did all sorts of tests (including lyme...negative) and told me it was Labyrinthitis. Got dx'd by another doc a month later.
I'm in week 9 of treatment. Still have tinnitus and stuffy ears, but much better. They flare from time to time, but it is better overall. I can deal.

- wealdsteve,
Even for a lyme patient, not everything about tinnitus is about lyme. Still, there are many good links for more detail in the thread above.
And, infection can cause permanent damage - but so can all sorts of med (liver support helps, though). Aspirin, itself causes tinnitus, so can acetaminophen.
When on antibiotics, our ears can be damaged at lower sound levels than normal. Wearing hearing protected when around a hairdryer, vacuum, blender, garden machines, etc. is important.
The book "Ototoxic Drugs" by Bauman is excellent regarding education not just of drugs but also about noise, etc.
The American Tinnitus Association site is also linked in that thread. I'm sure you've frequented their site but, from time to time, the update it.
There is still hope, though, As you've been treating lyme for 9 months, there may still be many months ahead of you - so be sure your liver support and hearing protection are in place. And, avoid all non-essentials meds as best you can if they stress the liver or the kidneys.
Good luck. -
