My eldest son gets pain in his eyes. Yesterday he said they felt like they were burning, but in the past he said a jabbing pain. Cannot narrow it down to a disease because he has lyme babesia microti and bartonella.

I've experienced eye pain (it started on one side but over time spread to both). For me it was a drilling kind of pain from behind, worse when I moved my eyes.
I did see an opthamologist to rule out anything serious, which they did. I attribute my eye pain to the high inflammation I experience.
I also get flashing lights in my peripheral vision, and my vision blurs or doubles slightly when I'm hot or tired. This has all very gradually improved with treatment.
If it is worrisome, have an opthamologist check it out.

My guess is Bartonella quintana or Borrelia sp. They act synergistically to do evil in our human heads.

Yes, I forgot to say that as suggested above, my LLMD blames Bart for my eye symptoms.

Dr. Sapi says Lyme love juicy parts. Eyes are juicy. I had the sharp, stabbing pain early on, now just neuro.

My eye pain was left eye only, and started within days of the bite.(on left arm) The eye pain continued for years until I finally got a positive lyme test. Inadequate treatment did not get rid of the eye pain, and I was diangosed by my opthamologist with lyme induced iritis. The only treatment involved prednesone eye drops, which did get rid of the iritis, but caused the lyme "vibration"to spread from left to right side of my body.
After finally finding an LLMD, serious treatment helped the eye pain, but I have to use eye drops often for dry eyes. And I developed a cataract in the left eye only, possibly due to not wearing sunglasses enough when I was on high dose doxy.
I go to a neuro opthamologist now, recommended by my LLMD. That opthamologist does not see "lyme damage", but has never been able to explain the left eye only pain. Also, for cataract surgery, they have to put you on prednesone drops after the surgery to reduce inflammation. My LLMD and opthamologist thought there would be no problem, as I was on abx, but the "vibration, or buzz" definitely increased.
So be careful!

when you'll write about your eye pain, would you mind to clarify whether it is inside, behind or on the outside of the eye. I am just curious since my son has had all 3 things but mostly inside. Have not really heard of others with inside pain

mjbucuk, I had a prolonged brainwave EEG due to focal seizures. During the test, i was subjected to strobe lights. At one point, the lights caused pain around the back & outer side of my R eyeball. That was new!
At another point, the strobes caused me to have tingling pins & needles pain in my fingers, hands, wrists, and forearms plus painful upper teeth!
Since your son has Babesiosis, know that two successful LLMDs in my area treat Babs first in order to get patients into long-term remission. No real progress until Babs is cleared.

Dear Wonko, imho, sounds like you experience focal seizures (used to be aka "petite mal seizures"). I was getting them for several months this spring and stopped driving for 6 wks out of safety concern.
Now i can tell when one may be coming on (if I'm getting very overtired from too much sensory input, like with several guests or someone trying to explain something complex when i'm already tired). If i stop all noise/talking, sit or lie down, close my eyes and cover my ears, i've been able to avert the seizures.
It's my understanding that neurologists test for seizures via EEG, but not opthamologists.

Dear Ann in CA, So sorry you've had such trouble with Lyme-induced iritis! That's awful.
Thanks for telling us about it, and warning about sunglasses while on doxy!

My eye pain was rub your eye and felt like someone stabbing it to the center of my brain.
At other times it did it on its own. Much better now.
