Has anyone gotten a swollen forehead, like the sinuses are swollen over the eyebrows? They seem to be settling down with Zyrtec, so it could be allergies.

My son is on IV Invanz, oral Vancomycin and Nystatin. He just finished a week of Biltricide, so i guess it could be related to parasite die-off. He did six weeks of Biaxin and Omnicef first. Now he's on the sixth week of IV Invanz.

He tested positive on Igenex:
IGM 23-25, 31,34,39(IND) and 41.
IGG 41++ and IND for 39.

Quest was positive for IGM 23 and 41.

No positive results for co-infections, at least not yet.

His symptoms are arthritis and fatigue.

Any thoughts on the forehead swelling?

Dear Mary,
I have the same issue, and mine is due to allergies. However, Lyme tends to cause or aggravate allergies. There are a few possibilities in your son's case. Parasitic infections could also result in such a reaction. Considering it is reacting to Zyrtec, that is a good sign it is nothing abnormal, and is likely allergy-related.

Sincerely,
Jin

For me swollen, full feeling sinuses are usually caused by allergies. An antihistamine like Zyrtec, Claritin, or Benadryl will help reduce the allergic inflammation. You may also need to add Sudafed to help dry up and Mucinex to help drain out the excess mucus from the sinuses.

Of course, ask your doctor or pharmacist to check for drug interactions before starting any new OTC meds.

Saline nasal sprays or washes will also help flush out allergens and viruses. This can help relieve allergy symptoms and prevent sinus infections/inflammation.

Thanks. I figure it's allergies. He's had sinus trouble before, it's just weird that it's starting way up there... so high.

I am bumping this very old thread as I am experiencing the symptoms of a swollen forehead in both the frontal sinus areas.
I am currently treating lyme and bart and will be treating babesia.
I am on ceftin, biaxin and Rifampin.

I have had daily frontal headaches for 5-6 months, and I just started having forehead swelling in the exact location of the pain.

Not sure if this is lyme related..
I am not sure what may alleviate this symptom as a corticosteroid is usually rx'd for such a condition which is a no-no for lyme patients..

It can be hard to figure out which Lyme or coinfection can be causing the headaches, if it's a combo, or if it is something else.

That being said, my headaches were thought to be due mainly to Babesia, and babesia is know to cause nasty headaches.

Yes, steroids are said to be a no-no from the literature I've read.

I hope you get relief soon.

You mean you can see the swelling? or if feels swollen inside?

Haven't had visible swelling, but have had the feeling of swelling and pressure many times. I have had it for sinus infections, allergies and for Lyme. So I think there could be a range of causes.

I have a pressure, swollen type feeling in my sinus area too, but mine feels more neurological in nature.

CT scans etc, always show clear, but it is a symptom that drives me LOONY, as it has a sickening element to it...

makes you wonder if it isn't Lyme related. I will say metronidazole cleared mine up for a few months..then it all came back and never left much, though it is some better.

The best way the body has to clear toxins is thru the skin- the largest organ in the body. So sweat, sweat, sweat!

The next best way to get rid of toxins is thru the sinuses. You may need something like non-drowsy sudafed (12 hour is handy- less pills), as Sammy said above, to help dry up and stop the frontal headaches it can cause.

You might want to add ibuprofen with it to reduce swelling and pain too. Otherwise this can make you miserable.

And yes, when sinuses swell and cause problems it can intensify the reaction to allergens.

Before taking anything be sure to ask the pharmacist if OTC meds will be ok with what you are taking.
