I just started Babs treatment and taking Mepron 1 teaspoon twice a day. I want to start doxy ASAP because of ehrlichia. LLMD thought about starting both but said doxy might interfere with Mepron and make it less effective. I cannot find any info about this. I checked drugs.com and it said nothing.
I have enough doxy for one month and want to start it now. I will then be back at LLMDs and will beg to be started on it. I won't be brave enough to tell him I have been taking it. LOL!
Any info about Mepron and doxy? I could even space the drugs apart if needed.

If I'm remembering correctly, the Doxy will cause about 40% lessened effectiveness of Mepron. Drugs.com does not mention this. They must not have found the study that was done. It is hard to find. I found it after doing a lot of googling. I think the study was on HIV patients, and they reference tetracycline, not doxycycline.
Spacing out the meds would not help, because they are in your system for a long time. After showing my LLMD the study, he informed me that spacing out the meds wouldn't work.
What you could do is "up" the Mepron dosage to make up for the decreased effect.
However, some LLMD's feel that in their experience, using these meds together still works, and they seem to turn a blind eye to the interaction altogether.
I was never comfortable with the idea. But some people do say this combo helped them, so who knows if it matters much? I was never wanting to risk loosing Mepron effectiveness.
I guess at the end of the day, it is your decision. I may have posted what I found somewhere on this site, so use the search feature to see.
