I can't tell you statistically what the chances are but I know its not uncommon for a whole family to have Lyme. It can be passed from a mother to a fetus and it is recommended that pregnant women take abx, and if they are breast feeding (even if they dont think their lyme is active). Lyme has also been found in saliva, urine and semen and it can be sexually transmitted. With that said-- it is MUCH less common that it is passed via bodily fluids, the percent is very low-- but possible.

I should also say that most people who have Lyme dont remember being bitten by a tick ever, including me :-)

I never had a tick bite either. My dad and his sister died of ALS.
Is it something in the family DNA that doesn't fight off any type of vector bite? or is it transfered through birth.
I see a llmd that is trying to figure that out. Seems like DNA and how we fight infection might have something to do with it. Some agree with this, some don't. I guess I'm sticking close to my llmd just in case.... I do not want ALS.

Whitney: Are you saying that all women who have had Lyme and want to have children, need to be on antibiotics during their pregnancy and during lactation? Even if they are considered cured or in remission (depending on which way you want to look at it)?

I don't think it's nearly as uncommon as people think. My LLMD treats a family in Austin, Tx... 3 generations who all live on the same farm and all have LD.
Me, my husband, all three of our children and my twin sister have LD. Not sure about mom but since she grew up in Rhode Island and California and is symptomatic I assume she has it as well.

I just raised a similiar question on another thread- asking if a tick bit a person with LD, and then bit another person- could the LD be transmitted through the bite?

I have read where it is passed in uetero and thru breastmilk and possibility of it passed thru sperm.
But I was wondering just how strong this parasite can be to survive 5 generations over 50+ years.
