Do you all have children?
Do your children get lyme or co-infection from you?

Do you on any treatment when you were pregnant?

I didn't find out I had Lyme and co until after my children were born. All three of my children now have Lyme disease and probably Bartonella.
My husband does too.

My LLMD is confident that my children were born with Lyme.

I did not know I had lyme/babesia/bartonella when I had my two kids. I thought I had fibromyalgia.

I had a lot of symptoms when pregnant with my girl and she tests positive for lyme. She also has high antibodies for bartonella.

And she has Asperger's syndrome which may or may not be related.

With my boy, I was very sick. I just thought that pregnancy was harder because I was older.

He is positive for lyme and has high antibodies for babesia and bartonella.

He has babs symptoms and we are awaiting the results of his IgeneX FISH test now.

I had five kids after I had Lyme Disease and probably bartonella. (my sixth was adopted).

None of my kids had Lyme except for one who got bitten by a tick. My husband does not have Lyme.

If you're working with an LLMD, you are doing the best you can. [Smile]

i'm pretty sure the best lyme childrens doc says if the mother is on abx during pregnancy the baby will not get lyme...but i don't know if the dosage or length of time you take the abx is important

also do not breast feed (or at least ask the llmd about that) i gave it to my child thru breast milk

stick with your llmd for best result

Anyone have any opinions on how long to wait after treatment, to start having children?

When my llmd said 2-3 years I was devastated.

I just started treatment a week ago, so I know this is probably a premature thought...but the planner in me, just wants to know when my body will be ready.

I'm lucky to not be too sick with symptoms right now, so I'm hoping treatment will work sooner than later, and I can get on my way to trying for a family.

Any opinions?

My LLMD has recommended a minimum of 18-24mo to some of his patients. Keep in mind, that is just before beginning to attempt pg. You will need to stay on abx WHILE pg, or for at least 2mo after ALL symptoms are clear.

I think the key to six's children avoiding LD is that her husband doesn't have LD. I think it's easier for a male to give Borreliosis to a female during intercourse.

A study found Borrelia in the semen of 44% of males.

Probably true, Smile, but you would think that after 25 years ....

Plus, the kids would be more likely to get it from me rather than him. I'm not saying it's not passed congentially, it can be, it's just not a sure thing especially if you're on abx, which I wasn't.

That percentage was semen from men known to have Lyme disease. Important point! [Wink]

A reference for the study is on the top of page 4:

LDA Grants Awarded and Resultant Publications (1992 - 2009)
This LDA document highlights many important research projects and public education efforts.

More detail here:
RECOVERY OF LYME SPIROCHETES BY PCR IN SEMEN SAMPLES OF PREVIOUSLY DIAGNOSED LYME DISEASE PATIENTS by a D.O. in Pa

This Dr. B. of Pa did a poster presentation later, and that's where i saw the 44%. May have been 43%, but looks like i don't have that bookmarked now. Sorry.

feelbetter, send the cord blood for testing with igenex. That is what my friend did and sure enough it was positive. Igenex knew it was for a newborn so they retested to make sure and again it was positive.

On the good sign, the baby was treated with ABX and to this day shows no signs of lyme several years later.
