Common symptoms of bartonellosis include:

___Fatigue (often with agitation, unlike Lyme disease, which is more exhaustion)

___Low grade fevers, especially morning and/or late afternoon, often associated with feelings of "coming down with the flu or a virus"

___Sweats, often morning or late afternoon (sometimes at night) - often described as "thick" or "sticky" in nature

___Headaches, especially frontal (often confused with sinus) or on top of head

___Eye symptoms including episodes of blurred vision, red eyes, dry eyes

___Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and sometimes hearing problems (decreased or even increased sensitivity - so-called hyperacusis)

___Sore throats (recurring)

___Swollen glands, especially neck and under arms

___Anxiety and worry attacks; others perceive as "very anxious"

___Episodes of confusion and disorientation that are usually transient (and very scary); often can be seizure-like in nature

___Poor sleep (especially difficulty falling asleep); poor sleep quality

___Joint pain and stiffness (often both Left and Right sides as opposed to Lyme which is often on one side only with pain and stiffness that changes locations)

___Muscle pains especially the calves; may be twitching and cramping also

___Foot pain, more in the morning involving the heels or soles of the feet (sometimes misdiagnosed as plantar fasciitis)

___Nerve irritation symptoms which can be described as burning, vibrating, numb, shooting, etc.

___Tremors and/or muscle twitching

___Heart palpitations and strange chest pains

___Episodes of breathlessness

___Strange rashes recurring on the body often, red stretch marks, and peculiar tender lumps and nodules along the sides of the legs or arms, spider veins

___Gastrointestinal symptoms, abdominal pain and acid reflux

___Shin bone pain and tenderness

It "could" be Bart. I have heard many stories who had a symptom peak after starting treatment.

Great thread! I'd love to hear more input from people!

My 14 yr. old daughter is being treated for Bart and is having these exact symptoms as nevagiveup's daughter. It's hard for me to tell if the meds are working and she's herxing or if the meds are not working and she's symptomatic because she wasn't very symptomatic before she started treatment.

When I herx from Bart treatment I have
sore throat,
headache,
heel pain,
and fatigue (the truck hit me kind),
chills,
red dry eyes,
brain fog,
sore arm pits,
and emotional stuff like depression and major agitation (mean as a hornet).

My Bart symptoms in general have been EVERYTHING bcb listed above EXCEPT
thick sweats,
anything w/ ears,
Episodes of confusion and disorientation,
and rashes

Hope this helps someone a little...

Many thanks bcb & 17hens for sharing symptoms and experience which is almost similar to my daughter.

Is variation in symtpoms very common in bart ? my daughter has peaks and lows since last 3 months ...she starts recovering and then her symptoms become worse ...is this a sign of herxing and if so, what can we do to help her to reduce variation in symptoms and get her back to recovery mode without disruption.

Any guidance / inputs will be extremely helpful and be appreciated.

Best Wishes !

This is a very interesting question which I would also like to hear responses to. I sure have my ups and downs with it and it is hard to tell what is herxing and what is relapsing.

If it were lyme it cycles every four weeks but I do not recognize what the cycle for bart is.

Glad you posted those Bart symptoms. I have about 3 of the symptoms only, actually more before I started Doxy.... I'm just not convinced I have Bart, but who knows? It's so complicated!

I'm becoming more convinced my LLMD is correct that Bartonella is a huge issue for me when looking at this list. I started Bar-1 yesterday and have had massive head pressure/thick afternoon sweats today.

Our daughter has been on mepron and zith for 1 year so I think 2 years should put a stop to the babesia.

We have not seen any Bart symptoms (except for foot pain which we hope is Lyme vs. Bart, time will tell).

Our daughters Lyme symptoms started to improve once she started taking Tindamax. Unfortunatley we may have to take her off this cyst buster due to "itching" reaction. The brain fog, neuro symptoms improved considerably once on Tindamax (took a couple of months).

bcb:

You know a few of your Bart symptoms are Babesia symptoms.
