My son got prescribed a z-pack, which is 500 mg on the first dose for a suspected bacterial issue (non lyme). He has been on herbal abx for a year.

His stomach really hurts. Wants probiotics. It really hurts.

Is this dose too high for a teen?

My preteen took that for her first dose, so it is probably not too high.

I hope he feels better.

Can he eat something when he takes it so it is not so hard on his stomach? I have had some stomach pain too but not severe. As long as I eat something when I take the meds, I do ok.

The worst problems I had was with doxy which caused acid reflux and I found using apple cider vinegar (with the mother) on my salads with olive oil prevented it.

It is good to take probiotics but he should do several hours after he takes an abx.

I hope he gets better and can tolerate it.
