Has anyone else had bad reactions to the drug itself? I'm having lots of neuro symptoms...spaciness, dizziness, eye symptoms that I have never had before. It feels like I am looking through an oil film on my eyes. Very disturbing. Doesn't feel like a herx.

Turning my eyes causes waves of nausea. I also cannot get off the couch. Fatigue is so bad. Am also running to the bathroom all the time.

Does Doxy have similar side effects? Would appreciate any thoughts.

Five weeks ago I started Minocycline/Cefdinir and Pulsing Tindamax for 5 days on/3 weeks off...its been tough....Fatigue is very bad as well as digestive issues. In and out of the bathroom all day, undigested food coming out in whole pieces (sorry to be so graphic). I have a low grade fever and sweat alot. Anything I eat feels like it is getting stuck in my Esophagus. I have a dry scaley rash below my eyebrows and above my eyelids but no other eye issues.

What is the dosage?? Mino causes a lot of dizziness and brain stuff... like the spaciness.

Not sure about the vision.

Doxy also crosses the blood brain barrier, but may not be as bad. It does, however, cause really bad nausea and gut issues.

Mino often causes profound effects on the inner ear and that creates nausea. I just wrote a bunch about this but must go rest now.

If you did not have liver support, D3 and B-6 in place BEFORE starting, maybe adding that now will help. You may have to ask your doctor for a different medicine. I tried several times, at different times, but mino and I could never make it together.

Doxy can also affect the inner ear but not usually as much. With doxy, though, you have to avoid sunlight.

GINGER CAPSULES and magnesium also help. Avoid driving and be very careful even walking out in traffic or on stairs.

Some do okay, even splendidly. However, many have to take a different med due to the vestibular effects from inner ear.

you can find much at this thread:

Specifically for LYME patients - lots of details about ears and what can help:

3/4 of the way down page one, there are lots of LIVER LINKS:

from what I understand Mino is not tollerated very well in women.

and the cautions do say to watch for eye problems

I would talk to your doctor about these issues for sure.

Doxycycline will not cause the same effects but will require a larger dose to get the same effect as mino.

also from what I understand doxy is worse if you are going to be in the sun.

but if you can't tollerate the mino then doxy is definetely an option

I was on doxy and then switched to mino.

Paul

If you are "running to the bathroom all the time" - for whatever reason, be sure to stay hydrated and keep up with electrolytes. Loss of fluid, minerals or electrolytes can cause intense vestibular effects.

Avoid Gatorade as it contains so many fake ingredients.

EmerGen-C is good - and they also make a nice electrolyte replacement, too.

A little bit of SEA salt with some organic lemon juice in room temperature water can be of help. Not too much salt, though, as the inner ear can't do too much if it's off kilter.

Thanks so much Queenie and Paul. Haven't been back on line for a few days but really appreciate your replies.

Lymetoo, I'm only taking 100mg . Was supposed to take 200mg twice a day but can't get past 100.

Keebler, you're a tower of information. Thanks so much!

I couldn't take minocycline.

Not dizziness, but true vertigo.

I was crawling on the floor.

My two young children yelled "horsie ride".

Tried to climb on my back.

Funny now, but it wasn't then.

I did better on doxy.

Hugs,

Geneal

Thanks Geneal. I'm going to ask to switch to Doxy.
