I just started the plaquenil about five days ago. I have a mild headache much of the time but I will suddenly get a splitting headaches that last about five minutes and then goes away. It seems to happen more often if I exercise enough to breath harder. I have never had such short sudden bursts of pain in my head. It is kind of like the brain freeze you get when you eat something cold too fast.
I also have had feelings of backs of legs ready to cramp - very tense and pulling. And I feel extremely tired and whoozy for about 4 hours after each dose.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this experience on this drug or if this is something else.
I am taking zithro, plaquenil and amoxy right now.

It could also be the increased effectiveness of the zith + the plaquenil. Plaquenil makes the zith work better.
Sorry you're feeling bad.

Thanks six, I don't feel terrible - just wonder though if this is a typical herx (hopefully) or something else. I am hoping the plaquenil is making the other two penetrate deeper and is hitting something.

Just did a search and there are a lot of complaints about plaquenil causing headaches as well as diarrhea which I also have but didn't mention. No one seems to know if it is a side effect of the drug or a herx.

plaquinil changes your blood ph and strips off bio film allowing the abx to more affectivly kill the ketes !
it can make the herx's a little stronger due to it killing more bugs !

Maybe that is what was happening. I quit it this morning as the headache was non stop and I have a pain in my lower abdomin so I want to let that clear up. The headache is already gone and I am feeling much better, just missing one dose.
I am making an appointment soon with an LLMD, as soon as I can make up my mind who to try. I plan to travel in November. Will be so nice to be in the hands of a doctor that knows what the heck he/she is doing!

I've been on plaquenil for over a year and a half and still get headaches but feel you need to take the good with the bad. I take it for my RA caused from chronic Lyme. Stopped treating the Lyme! It wasn't working.

I am going to go back on the Bactrim DS and zithro until my doctors appointment. I was pulsing tindamax two days a week and that was ok.
Think I have decided on which doctor to travel to see - finally!
For some reason my lower right side hurts. I have had this pain before but I don't know what causes it. Otherwise I feel fine right now. . . I think. . . knock on wood.
