6 weeks ago I had a cold (stuffy nose, no fever for just a couple days) and went on a plane. I felt my head was about to burst. On the way back, no issues. However, about 1 week after that, I got intense pain in my sinuses (no sinus infection and CT scan showed no sinus issues) followed by unrelenting ear fullness and tension headaches. The ear fullness is improving with chiropractic care, however, I have an almost constant feeling of brain fog/whooziness and tension like headaches. I already have rheumatoid arthritis (and have for 25+ years) and responded well to medications. Unfortunately, I've been on prednisone for about a year due to breastfeeding (ranging from 5-7.5 mg/day). I've also had an MRI showing nothing. Then I had a lyme test - negative ELISA and western blot was negative IgG's but 2 positive IgM's - 23 and 41. I'm pretty sure this is lyme because of the acute onset on my headaches but I really haven't had a noticeable fever in as long as I can remember. I should also mention I received significant blood transfusions while I was pregnant 18 months ago. One other thing to mention is that I've never felt significantly tired even with a baby, working FT and getting 4-5 hours of sleep for months at one point (although my ID dr thought that prednisone could have been giving me a boost). Anybody with any thoughts? I'm kind of freaking out about my prednsione use as well but I can't quit cold turkey since its been almost a year.

Mom it sure sounds like Borreliosis. And probably not all you have.

I believe RA is Lyme. In fact 1/1000 kids are diagnosed every yr. in the US with IJA. At least they got the name right-Idiopathic

I certainly would see a LLMD to help you at this point. And you may want to find a pediatric LLMD also. It could mean the difference between Autism and normal.

No you cannot quit cold turkey and you need the LLMD to help you deal with these issues.

They may want to put you on antibiotics for several months while weening you off the steroids and then retest to see if you get a better response on the test...Only a LLMD will do this for you.

Many can make a clinical diagnosis by other tests that you can be assured you have Lyme.

YOU MUST taper off of steroids.. NO cold turkey or you could have a life-threatening experience!

But DO stay away from ID doctors!!! Far away!!

You need to see a specialist who treats Lyme, an LLMD.

Get him/her or another doctor to sign off on a Western Blot test thru Igenex Lab.

You can order a test kit for free, take it to your doctor and when you mail it in, you pay for it. It would cost about $200. www.igenex.com

I would suggest test #188 and 189.

Many with RA actually have Lyme. We have members here who were diagnosed with both.

Have you seen www.roadback.org ? Many there are treating their "RA" with antibiotics. Hmmm... maybe there's an infection causing it??
