Can a change in heparin brand cause weird symptoms? I ran out of the heparin injection my LLMD gave me, so my home nurse dropped off some extra heparin that she had to hold me over until I see my LLMD on Tues. The only difference is I could taste this heparin as I injected it and felt it going in my chest. The one from my LLMD i could not taste or feel. Well, the past couple of days I feel so, so terrible w/very weird things happening...like I can barely hold my head up. It feels like my neck is too weak. I get nausea and a sensation that my head is going tofall over. Could it be the heparin?? Or is from flagyl that I just pulsed?

I am also feeling chest pain again with my picc line and overall, am feeling so discouraged.

I would not use it again until you speak to your doctor and/or nurse!

Yes, it could be from the flagyl... but you don't want to risk it being from the heparin. About 2 yrs ago there was an issue about the quality of heparin coming from China.

So please make calls Monday morning!!

YES! I had some heparin made at one pharmacy (lozenges) and it worked wonderfully! Then, the pharmacist told me he was having a tough time getting enough of the "filler".

I went to another pharmacy to have it made and I honestly do not feel as well. The benefits are less and I feel like I have to take benedryl after I have it............. which I believe is an allergy to a different "filler". I asked the pharmacies for their "compounding recipes" to try to identify what they are doing and what is different... they won't give away their "recipes".

I wish I could give you a better answer, but I'm making do until the original guy can hopefully get back what he once was getting [Smile]

Sunshine.. they should at least tell you WHAT is in the formula... They don't have to divulge amounts, but should tell you WHAT is in there!

Have you asked it the heparin troche is gluten free? Maybe if you ask for specific ingredients you will figure it out.

jwall, did the nurse give you the same dose heparin that you were using before? I would assume so but it might be worthwhile to check.

I have changed brands of both saline and heparin and noticed that the brands do taste different. Some have no taste and others have a strong rubbery or plastic like after taste and smell. I've not literally felt different when changing brands of heparin though.

Was this your first flagyl pulse? Have you ever had those symptoms before? You really should talk with your doctor to make sure that everything is OK.

Hugs jwall, I'm sorry you're feeling so bad and having problems with your PICC line again.
