My daughter has been having her period alot the past couple months. Like every day. She has been on oral contraceptives for several years due to painful periods before lyme was even in the picture. Even on the pill she seems to bleed almost every day.
Is this normal?
Thanks, Deb G

Bleeding every day for months is not normal. That alone would make a healthy person feel weak and sick. You really should get her an appt with her Gyn.

The same thing happened to me while on oral contraceptives and antibiotics for Lyme. I had to discontinue my oral contraceptives.

The bleeding is not normal.
I took Seasonale (a birth control pill where you only get your period 4 times a year) for a while due to horrific cramps. I think it was about 2 years that I was taking it. I stopped & I'm glad I did. There has to be some other way...
I went off of the pills & tried bio-identical hormone replacement for a while. That was OK but they don't really know the long term effects of these things.
I switched to herbs. They are helpful. I still have cramps but I think what really helped was getting rid of parasites. It's less painful now. Not completely gone but alot better.
I'm 48 - so, my situation may be different than someone younger. The parasites really can effect your liver which has something to do with estrogen production (in my understanding). If you have parasites - they can create toxins which can effect the organs in your body & make menstruation worse.
Could be a xenoestrogen problem, too...? Many people's hormones are really mixed up these days. I would look for a more "natural" approach if possible.
I gained about 30 lbs on Seasonale & it hasn't come off in many years even though I'm not taking it. Weight gain is a common side effect. I also got migraines. I'm sure there are other side effects.
The hormones really need balance in my opinion. The pills just wipe everything off the map - if you know what I mean. I know it's rough. Cramps can be really devastating.
Good luck.

Thanks everybody...I we do see her LLMD tomorrow.
Its not like heavy bleeding every day but there is usually some sort of bleeding. I think it does have something to do with the pill and all the abx she has been on for the past 12 months.
As if it isnt hard enough for a 16 year old to go thru all this...now she has her period every day
Thanks everybody for all your responses!

Deb, there are many new "pill" options now. If your daughter has been on the same one for several years it might just be time to change to something different. That's one reason why it would be good to discuss her symptoms with a Gyn too.
Good luck with your LLMD appt tomorrow Posts: 5237 | From here | Registered: Nov 2007

I would suggest getting off of all unnatural products, especially hormonal things like contraceptives. Recommend finding natural family planning (99.9% effective for birth control)such as Creighton model which can help stabilize hormones. For cramps, I recommend high calcium intake a week before your period and motrin for the cramps. Make sure you eat with the motrin and only take as much as needed.
