I can't answer you question, since my LLMD doesn't believe in pulsing.
I have been on Mepron/zith/tindamax for nine months, with the exception of a few weeks of malarone. During the switch to malarone my symptoms began to creep back.
Hopefully someone can chime in...

The idea behind this is not exactly pulsing.
It's that the insurance will only give me 3 weeks worth of mepron at a time and will likely not argue if I only ask for it 1 time a month.
That was the reasoning explained to me.

Probably because it's such an expensive drug.
I'd just refill the prescription every three weeks, if that's what it states on the prescription, and not stop the Mepron.

I don't think it's a good idea to pulse any Babs meds (or Bart). They reproduce too rapidly.
You can pulse Lyme meds because of it's very slow replication.

In the book "Lyme Disease Solution" by Dr. S. (Since he has a published book I'm metioning his name).
He says "For Babesia generally, I cycle Mepron's use as follows:three weeks on the medicine, and one week off. Azithromycin is continued for all four weeks."

oh, that's good to know, bigstan! thanks!
(before they remove your post )
Does anyone know what the OTHER Dr. S. (FL) says?
Janet, what you said is what I was thinking, which is why I'm asking for input.
I wish there was a lyme book that told you everything about everything to get well. It would say things like "to cure babesia, you must take Mepron for take this long, this strong, w/out CoQ10, Rifampin, Doxy, etc, etc.
I know a book like that would never work for a million reasons, but I just wish it anyway.
Like parenting, so much to know and you don't learn it until after you've been through it. Ugh.

bigstan, please review the LymeNet rules. It seems to me you are not permitted to use a doctor's name even if he has a published book.
Let's protect our docs as much as possible. Thanks.

bigstan, please click on "Terms and Conditions" at bottom of screen and see the LymeNet rules that you agree to abide by when using this site.
Here is the relevant rule:
5. You also agree not to post the last name, or the first name, of any person that treats Lyme disease. Instead, please use the first initial of the last name only, with the state, but not city. For example, Dr. B. in NY. This person's contact information should not be displayed on LymeNet. However, you may email this information. This is to protect those that treat Lyme and the Lyme community. [end of quote]
The rule has not been changed.
Thanks.

17 Hens, can you take Malarone for that week you're off Mepron? Or maybe take more herbals during that week.
When I was on babesia treatment, I couldn't go more than three days before symptoms started returning. My LLMD wanted me off meds for a week and told me to start Mepron if babs symptoms came back during that week, and they did.
