My doctor called Monday and said that I have a positive IGM titer for Epstein Barr. I was also advised to see a ID doc which I am in the process of doing right now. I see my primary care on Tuesday.
Anyone that has experience with this, I would greatly appreciate your input. I can almost say with certainty that the ID folks here will not be that familiar with Lyme and I really cannot afford to see another out of state doc at this time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch. I am on a heavy Lyme BartBabs regimen too at the moment with bicillin shots - mepron etc.
Thank you...

Hi Amelia.
My EB titers were so high the lab placed the value higher than they measured.
A few months of valcyte did the trick.
Very expensive.....very, unless you have health insurance.
Good luck with the ID docs.

Thanks Geneal. Do you think with all of the other things I am taking, that I can take Valcyte with them. I sure appreciate your quick feedback. Thanks a ton!

Amelia~ You cannot tell the difference by symptoms between a viral infection and a bacterial infection (such as lyme). It would be a good idea for you to keep track of all your lab results in a notebook.
Talk with the ID doctor and do whatever treatment is needed for EBV, stopping antibiotics if he recommends. If you get well, great. If not, then consider what you are really sick with.
I know people (personally) who have other viruses along with EBV that is making them ill...Coxsackie B and HHV-6 to name 2 of them. Lyme may not even be one of your problems...or it may be.
Test for lots of pathogens, and treat what is most obviously wrong. Start with the EBV and go from there. Don't get stuck thinking one pathogen is causing your problems. You may have more than one.
Best, Timaca
