I just wanted to briefly raise awareness by sharing my new experience. Last week the PA to my llmd ordered an ultrasound of my buttock after showing her a really, really HUGE bump on my buttock. I thought perhaps I developed an abcess at the injection site (the bicillin was administered alternating sides of course).
I saw my PCP yesterday and she r/o an abcess. Instead I developed a LARGE lipoma (caused by trauma of bicillin injections). I will have to undergo actual complex surgery which I have been told will require general anestesia, packing to the wound for aftercare treatment and was warned the recovery process will be very painful.
This all stinks because the bicillin seemed to be helpings the most.
* just something to think about.

Sorry to hear. Would you mind sharing how large this bump is, exactly?
I did Bicillin for a year....I ended up stopping not only because "it was time," but also because of the bumps. I basically had one on each side, I'd say less than the size of a golf ball, pretty deep under the skin, so that from the surface of the skin, you could barely make out any kind of protrusion, but when you feel the area, you can feel the bump under there.
For mine, yes, you can "see" the bumps visually, just barely (with no clothing covering), but they are not big enough that anyone would notice them even under tight clothing. So you can barely make them out visually without "feeling" for them, since they are pretty deep under the skin.
About 3 months later, it seems like they are getting smaller even. I still know they are there, but luckily, they aren't troublesome enough that I would need surgery. I think I could get away wearing a swimsuit (female) without the bumps showing.
I am going into detail just so people can get a sense of what mine are like. I'm just wondering how large your bump is? I'm really sorry you have to get surgery. I have wondered if mine pose any harm.

Sure, I have no problem telling u (and the rest of the community the size- anything that I can do to inform others). The bump is enormous; I'd say about a little larger than the size of a tennis ball- maybe even closer to the size of a softball? Did u want specific measurents?
Also, I am thin (not to mention I've lost weight due to Lyme) and the bump is really really visual! I just noticed it one day as I got out of the shower- it's not at all painful though. But I cam tell that it's so big I have stretch marks all around the bump.
Hope that helps...

Sorry to hear this news. That stinks. I also had bumps after gentamicin injections but they finally (after about 4-5 months) started getting smaller. Now, about a year later, they are totally gone.
