If a mom had Lyme before conceiving (and it was somewhat treated), could a baby receive those antibodies in utero and then test positive for Lyme later in life but not really have Lyme?

We believe my son had Lyme which was rec'd in utero bc I had Lyme prior to him being conceived (bulls eye rash) but I was treated for 10 days of Doxy. I'm wondering if his positive Lyme test (although he has symptoms too) COULD be just from receiving my antibodies. Just a thought.

wishful, but I think highly unlikely. IGG does not imply immuniity. IGM does imply active infection and if he has symptoms, I think should be treated

Sorry, I can't answer your question.

Lyme is a clinical diagnosis. If he has antibodies and symptoms it would be very important to get him to a qualified ILADS trained lyme doctor for evaluation. A good one will look for other possible causes of symptoms, not just lyme.

IgM or IgG could mean active infection.

We do have an upcoming LLMD appt. I was just kind of thinking out loud about the possibility. He had several IGG bands test positive on the IGenex so we will be going forward with an evaluation.

If he's having symptoms, it's likely to be Lyme. Just because a person has a positive test does not mean they have Lyme, it just means they were exposed .... but if they have a positive test AND symptoms, it does.
