Sounds kind of odd. He makes it sound really simple to treat lyme. He had to have had it bad enough, and long enough to destroy his heart.

It sounds like after the heart transplant he was cured.

I would be really concerned about lyme not being gone and damaging his new heart.

Anybody know what kind of heart dysrhythmia he had?

I have developed an intermittent Left Bundle Branch Block that has been blown off by cardiology as non-life threatening.

There are days, periodically, that I am sure I am going to drop dead.

"On Saturday, he will participate in the 2010 Start! Triangle Heart Walk, which raises money to fund research and education efforts of the American Heart Association."

"I'm the captain of one of the Heart Walk teams," Spector said. "We'll be doing our share to help heart disease. That's just an incredible thrill for me."

The cause of the heart destruction was lyme. The American Heart Association already has hoards of people who doante time and money whereas lyme education and research is in desparate need. How about trying to help those who are dying of undiagnosed lyme disease (like he was)? There are so many.

He was told (based on testing) that he had exposure but no lyme. The tests that were negative were clearly wrong. How about lending your time, energy and money to help get research money into the right hands for better diagnostic tests?

Perhaps he is working behind the scenes to help with the cause of his heart problem (LYME)! I certainly hope so!!

Terry

(This is a very belated reply, due to the fact that LymeNet was down for several days and then I was out of town for several more days after that, so this is the first chance since then to post the response which I had attempted to post last week.)

Babbs,
It has been known for 3 decades that heart block can be a sign of Lyme disease. In fact, there are a total of 163 similar articles (as of this date) on PubMed if you use the search terms "heart block" and "Lyme OR Borrelia OR Borreliosis." For example, here's the link to a 1981 article on this subject:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7460660

You might want to print out a few such articles to take to your cardiologist. If you have trouble finding other articles, then use the same search terms that I suggested (above). Be sure to use all caps for the operational terms OR and AND, and be sure to use parentheses to enclose these terms. Or copy and paste these terms into the query box at PubMed, including the parentheses, using the link below.

(Lyme OR Borrelia OR Borreliosis) AND heart block
