My daughter has tested positive through Quest for babesia. I am not surprised that she has it, since she has other coinfections and lyme that were passed on by me.
Our LLMD is currently out of the country, but I wondered if insurance companies will treat babesia? Does it have to be a positive Lyme test to get treatment? Does the fact that she has a positive coinfection tell the insurance company that she also has Lyme?

With positive test results, it would be difficult for the insurance company to deny treatment. However, you could run into the problem that they'll limit the length of time they'll cover treatment, due to the IDSA guidelines.

How old is your daughter? Just curious.
It won't count as a positive for Lyme officially, but since babesia is tick-borne, you may be able to persuade a doctor to give you a month's worth of antibiotics for Lyme, even in the absence of positive tests for Lyme, "just in case."
So the CDC, etc won't call it Lyme just because of the positive babesia test. But anyone who is logical would probably want to thoroughly investigate the possibility of a Lyme false-negative. But it sounds like you already know she has Lyme......
