Morning, Have been having some tingling/numbness in left hand.
Went to the chiropractor. He did xrays and found I had two compressed nerves cause by the discs. He said this was causing the tingling in left hand etc.
Is that possible and not the lyme causing it. This morning from sleeping on it wrong, the hand was literally numb. I hadto shake it awake.
Better now but scary.

This is a tricky one since it could be EITHER.
I know that before my diagnosis, I was told I had degenerative disc disease along with Fibro and then pinched nerves.
Since then, I have been in treatment for Lyme, Bart and Babesia, coming up on 4 years in Nov. Most all of this has subsided.
With that said, the chiropractor was also able to take a lot of pressure off these types of symptoms.
My thought...and I am NOT a doctor is that Lyme will cause all sorts of things to go out of whack in our bodies and treatment is needed to get our bodies healthy, but the alternative treatments, ie chiropractors, Lymph Drainage, accupuncture, etc, etc, etc will help you along.
Good luck and hope you can get some relief. I personally would treat the Lyme AND have the Chiropractor help you out.

Cathy, thanks for the great insight. I am currently treating all the bugs, bart included.
Getting there and only have some lingering symptoms at that.

Hi Janice For me this was one of the beginning symptoms. It felt like a pinched nerve or a knot in my back that I just couldn't get relief from. Then the tingling in my hand started. My regular doc sent me for x-rays and an MRI, which showed a couple of small disc issues so she sent me for physical therapy, then to have epidurals when that had no impact.
After still being in pain following the second procedure, the doctor there told me he could do a third but said the issue was not from the discs and that I should see a neurologist. By this time the pain & tingling had spread to my torso & legs and crept up to my face. Many tests, doctors, a chiro and treatments later it still continues to come and go.
It could very well be from the Lyme or a co-infection. One thing to keep in my is that epidurals are shots of steroids (I think anyway) and steroids will often amplify Lyme symptoms so you may want to steer clear of them until you know for sure that the tingling/numbness comes from the disc compression.
I agree with Cathy too in that the Chiro could bring some relief with adjustments. Hope you find relief soon as I know how uncomfortable it can be.

Janice, how would he see compressed nerves in an Xray?
Could be you have sticky blood (forget the correct medical term)? Also common among lyme patients and would produce similar sensations from bad blood flow. If you are sleeping on a regular coil mattress, the pressure points at night further restrict blood flow, causing the extremities to 'fall asleep'. An air mattress could do wonders, as well as diagnosis and treatment of sticky blood.
A chiro may be able to bring you relief from the symptoms, BUT if it were me, I'd want further testing (such as an MRI w contrast) and perhaps an EMG to prove the theory of compressed nerves before allowing treatment. I say this because I've been down this road.

Lymeinhell is referring to "hypercoagulation" which many Lyme patients have.

X-rays show your bones. All of the bones of your back (your vertebrae) should have a nice even space between them. The discs are in these spaces.
Near the top of your spine, you must have some vertebrae with very little space between them. The cause of this is degenerated discs. Without a nice thick disc between the bones, the nerve coming out to your arm and hand will get compressed.
Same if you can see a bone spur (additional growth of bone) on left side of one of those vertebrae.
So, you can draw the conclusion of a compressed nerve from an x-ray that way.
My husband's orthopedic surgeon can see all that and more on a simple x-ray of his neck that he did right in the office.
If I had this symptom, I would want to consult an ortho to see what he recommends. I like chiropractors, but when I herniated a disc in my back, the chiropractor could not help me one bit. After suffering for 2 weeks, seeing him 3 times per week, I went to the ortho and got pain meds, anti-inflammatories and ultimately the epidural injections. They are steroid injections, so I hope you will not have to go that far.
Hopefully, if the ortho agrees as to the diagnosis, maybe some Celebrex will fix you right up.
You don't want to do nothing if it is a compressed nerve because doing nothing could lead to permanent damage to that nerve. You certainly don't want that. You want to take care of that nerve.
