Hi all. I have recently been diagnosed with ME following a number of years feeling unwell with various symptoms. These include: extreme debilitating fatigue, apalling memory and concentration, urticuria, joint pains and swellings that come and go for no apparent reason, in particular, and is bothering me loads at the moment, neck, shoulder and lower back pain; weight gain, despite being physically active when able; and others. Then a colleague mentioned Lyme Disease to me because I spend a lot of life in the English Lake Disrict and have done all my life. I don't remember being bitten by a tick, but I am not good at covering myself up when out walking in warm weather. About 7 years ago I visited my GP with a strange mark on my ankle which was red and raised on the outside, in a circle, then a clear area, then a red raised bit again in the middle, incredibly like the bullseye marks I have seen in literature. My GP at the time did not seem particularly concerned and said he didn't know what it was. It is still there even now after seven years, although it has faded somewhat. Following my colleagues comments I went to my GP and asked for a test for Lyme Disease, I am still waiting for the results, but she said that a Lyme Disease mark would not still be there after seven years. I am interested to know what people on this site think, you all seem very experienced on the subject. I am anticipating a negative result for Lyme Disease, but I will let you know.

Print out the green booklet from http://lymepa.org

Ticks carry/transmitr other diseases. This booklet is a great primer. Last pages are lists of symptoms.

Perhaps you can get in touch with BADA,the British association for Lyme.. If you scroll down once at the below link to "contact us", perhaps someone there can give you a Dr. recommendation, it definitely sounds like you could use one to either rule in / rule out Lyme.....

You should also join the forum:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EuroLyme

They will be able to tell you the testing and treating situation for the UK.

I still have a mark from the tickbite years later.

Sounds like lyme to me. Hope the testing in the UK is better than the testing here!!
