I do not know if any of you remember me. Because I have not posted in a very long time. I am almost completely blind because optic Neuritis and Glaucoma. I am still unable to tolerate any antibiotics because of the very strong Herx. I get even with herbs. Is there anything new or strong enough to almost eliminate Herx? I greatly depends on the advise and help I receive from this group, because I am unable to travel at all. I hope someone can help me.
Regards, Radha.

Hi Radha! Welcome back! I hope someone here will have some answers for you!
I've never heard of anything to help a herx except detoxing. Some use Tri-Salts, lemon water, antioxidants, etc.
What happens when you herx? Is it unbearable? Any specific symptoms that you can't tolerate?
I'm very sorry to hear about your vision.

I don't know if it will work the same for everybody, but I found burbur by nutramedix to be very helpful. I have a cardiac condition and it actually helps my tachycardia episodes.

Thanks so much to all you for replying and your concern. I already suffer unbearably from a long list of symptoms including severe bone pain, Fatigue, Fevers, Chills, night sweats, anxiety, air hunger and so much more every single day. These symptoms are already so severe and with herx I just cannot handle how much stronger they become including heart related symptoms. I have tried herbs and antibiotics but I am just too weak to handle the increase in severity. If any of you think of something that I could take too eliminate the herx please let me know. You can also send me a private email at [email protected] By the way my dad is typing all these because my vision has gotten that bad.

Radha, Buhner's herbs are helping me and I have been infected over 10 years. I am afraid to go on abx because I react very strongly to them.
Considering my symptoms were so severe I was bedridden at one point, I feel pretty good these days. I would say most days are 75-80%.
I take lots of magnesium and COQ10 as well as Japanese knotweed and Red Root.. I am also a vegetarian so my diet is helping me alot. I am not herxing anymore so I will increase the doseage soon.
You must have Babesia, so I would add Cryptolepis(sp?) to that. Remember to always start low and slow to control your herxes.

Drinking lemon water helps - juice a half lemon in 8 to 12 oz water 2 x per day.
In a pinch - Alka Seltzer Gold to alkalize your body can work well.
Parsley is good. I saw Burbur mentioned -that stuff is great.
A warm bath in Epsom Salt (one or two cups). Start slow - maybe five or ten minutes. Rinse off after the bath in warm water and plan to go to bed right after until you can figure out how you are going to feel. Gradually increase baths to 20 to 30 min. and you can eventually sip herbal tea to help you sweat.
There are some good "detox" teas out there, too.

I know the chances finding a doctor who will do any type of laser treatment in the home is very very unlikely. However I did hear from one doctor that there are portable lasers that can be done in an outpatient setting. If any of you have also heard of this or know any way I could find someone anywhere in US. If I could find someone come to my home and do any procedure on my eyes I would be forever indebted to you. Money is not a concern only saving my eye sight. You will have trust to me when I say due to number of reasons it is impossible for me to go to the hospital. I know that what I am asking is almost impossible but if there is even a small shred of hope I had to ask. I am very desperate and praying someone will go out of their way to help to save my vision.
Thanking you, Radha

I feel almost patronizing telling you this, because i've seen it on the boards so much that I'm nearly positive you'd have heard, but in case you somehow don't know:
My LLMD says to go to Nutramedix, order the liquid Parsley and liquid Burbur, and you can put a few drops in some water and take it EVERY FIFTEEN MINUTES if you have to, to help with herxing. He was actually told this by a fellow LLMD and now recommends it to his patients. But yes, I typed correctly, every fifteen minutes. My LLMD also works with people who have had severe complications--including atrial fibrillation--so he knows how serious it can be.
Perhaps with these supplements you can suffer through the herxes and make it through the other side. This isn't just to save your sight, it's to save your LIFE. What good will it do to fix your eyes if the illness will just attack them again once you do? You only need enough antibiotic or herb to create a herx--not much more; as long as it's killing the bugs instead of the bugs killing you.
I really, really hope you have a good LLMD because I have no idea how you could be expected to maneuver this dreadful disease without one.

Thanks you so much for your replies. How do I know that it is not too late to reverse the damage and vision loss. I have already had from the glaucoma and optic neuritis, even if I started antibiotics from what I have read the vision loss is permanent. Also you said to take the extracts every ten minutes, for how many hours do you do that? Yes, I also have Babsia.

People who can't stand herxes, and I am one of them, usually take very small doses of abx, not full doses.
If you are not getting any kind of treatment, you will continue to decline.
I do understand your fear of herxes.

Have you tried the typical Questran (aka cholesterolamine-sp?) or Actos binding products that many are on via their LLMDs?
Or even simple apple pectin and such?
I hate to say it, but ditto to lou's comment above. You've gotta find a way to restart treatment. Your situation sucks and I really feel for you. Hugs and prayers. xoxo

Per my LLMD, you can take burbur and parsley every 10 minutes up to 3 hours.
I cannot tolerate very high doses of abx either. Your LLMD will work with you. I am taking 1/4 the recommended doses.

What is your coinfection status? I just heard on the live streaming ILADS conference that bartonella can cause significant eye problems. Maybe that is causing your eye problem and needs treatment?

Have any of you had severe vision loss and what was the cause of the vision loss? Was the vision loss permanent or did it come back with Lyme treatment or some pother treatment? How long did it take to get improvement if any improvement at all? All the doctors say vision loss from Glaucoma is permanent, but a naturopath I consulted with says that Chinese medicine says the vision can come back. What do all of you think? I am too scare to hope and would love any feed back.
Thanks so much, Radha.

Mentioned at the ILADS 2010 Conference
# For Herxheimer reactions: 2 Alka-Selzer Gold (no aluminum) in 8 ounces of water with lemon or lime followed by 6-8 capsules of glutathione or 1500 mg or oral liposomal glutathione. 70% will fell better in hours
# On the topic of water: Dilution is the solution to pollution. This suggests that in order to help our bodies detoxify, we must drink more water"
There are more notes from the ILADS 2010 Conference at:
Just so you know, we haven't tried this yet. I am going to ask my LLMD what she thinks of this at our next appointment.
Another thing that I am asking my LLMD about is Curcamin (aka. Tumeric). I was doing a lot of reading on this herb last night. From my notes:
Target the inflammation in the nerves with curcumin taken with fish oil, B complex, and Vitamin D3
We already do the fish oil, B complex, and Vitamin D3... asking the LLMD about curcamin.
Blindness can be temporary especially if inflammation is the cause of the blindness. If brains can swell from this... than vision can be affected. I am no doctor, that just makes since. My mother in law went blind for 6 months and then one day she had her vision back.
I hope you feel better!
