Basically can you grow new natural gut flora again after years of oral antibiotics?

I would really like to eat bread again one day and not have to avoid sugar anymore... However I have become allergic to gluten as of the last 9 months [Frown] . I really hope that goes away as well.

Expect the gluten issue to stay. No one is actually "allergic" to gluten, by the way. Have you been on www.celiac.com ?? Lots of good information and a discussion board too.

I still have trouble with yeast myself. Hate it. Buy some really good probiotics like VSL#3, Theralac, Flora Source, etc.

Lyme symptoms list compared with yeast symptoms

DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

After I completed my lyme treatment, my lyme doc had me restore my gut for 30 days (using Florestor, etc.) and then I was free to eat normally again.

Since then, I eat a normal diet and I have not had yeast problems. It has been over 5 years since I completed lyme treatment and began eating normally with no problems.

So, it seems obvious to me that you definitely can get normal gut flora back after you stop killing it all the time with antibiotics.

Thank you Lymetoo very helpful!

TF wow congratulations, how long did you have lyme for and how long were you treated for? What kind of symptoms did you have?

What was your treatment protocol?

Very curious, I have been sick for 15 years undiagnosed for 13... First diagnosed with MS, so you can see how my hope right now is not so bright.

Sorry for all the questions, it is just very rare that you meet someone who has been cured from this awful disease.

Thank you,

Kuda

I had undiagnosed lyme, babesiosis and bartonella for 10 years.

I treated for 3 years. 2 of those years I had rather poor treatment, then I switched docs and got good Burrascano type treatment for 1 year and was done.

Send me a private message and I will send you a write-up of my treatment protocol.

I have at least 2 friends who had undiagnosed lyme for at least 15 to 20 or more years (diagnosed as fibromyalgia) and they also got rid of their lyme and coinfections.

Other friends who were sick less time got well in 1 year of Burrascano type treatment.

I also eat normally after treatment. Because I had such a bad parasite infestation and have leaky gut due to KPU, it's taken a bit longer for me to restore my gut, but it's pretty much back to normal.

I did not have to avoid yeast when on abx. It bothers some and not others. The yeast in bread is not the same yeast as candida.

If you have celiac disease, your gluten intolerance will not go away. My gluten intolerance did go away with Lyme treatment.
